Wild New York - A Natural Paradise

It is hard to believe that you are still in New York City, this is a delightful natural setting to commune with nature.

This park has a lot of potential and would receive more stars from me if the New York City Parks Department, which is supposed to maintain High Rock, kept its end of the bargain. The trails, which are extensive and take hikers through a variety of terrains including the amazing vantage point from the peak of the pile of rubble... More

This is a beautiful park which you can hike on a sunny day. Definitely bring your hiking boots. If you are on Staten Island and looking for a serene place, this would be a good choice.

Nice place for a short hike. The area has lots of trees and a small lake. We enjoyed a shaded and relaxing hike. Went on the weekend and saw only a few people. Dog friendly (saw one on a leash). There are lots of paths/small trails that cross each other. We tried to find the green trail that we read... More

Part of the more expansive Greenbelt this park is set up higher in the hills and a bit darker. It connects to the other Greenbelt trails and ion t's own the trails are shorter but the canopy and foliage is denser. It's also more swampy in certain parts.

In the smallest borough of NYC, this oasis (part of the environmental preserve called the Green Belt) is this walk in park where you can feel separated in nature from the busting life of 18 million people in a 50 mile radius.

High Rock is part of the Greenbelt which will always remain wild. There are many trails through the park and they are well marked so its impossible to get lost if you stay on the trails. The park is wooded and if you didn't know you were on Staten Island you would think you were upstate somewhere. I have seen... More
