What a wonderful hike me and my wife had today. Even picnicked when we entered the first trail(yellow). If you're in the area do go. You won't be disappointed.

We walked through woods, along the coastline, and through a magnificent meadow. A new feature for children: a short hike has pages from a lovely picture book about a... More

We did a 10.5 mile hike around Mashomack Preserve. We saw deer, all sorts of birds, snakes. butterflies, dragonflies, to name a few of the wildlife. The views were breathtaking!

My wife and I stopped by while poking around Shelter Island. We were not dressed for a hike in the woods, but did enjoy the small visitor center. My wife got a kick out of watching and listening to the lively birds at the feeder that can be viewed through a big plate glass window in the wall of the... More

On a cloudy, misty August afternoon my husband and I had just enough time to hike the 1.5-mile Red Trail and enjoyed it enormously. Typical of a Nature Conservancy site, the trails are extremely well marked and maintained. At the Salt Marsh Overlook, we saw lush grasses, glassy water, and an impressive nest of osprey. A helpful staff person welcomed... More

This was a beautiful walk in the woods with guides who know their stuff! I think the self guided tours would be fun but the two preserve employees who walked with us were fountains of knowledge about Mashomack and their love of the preserve was evident.
