We have lived in Rochester for 15 years and remain amazed that a city of our size is blessed with a museum of MAG's quality. The foresight of the MAG's major donor (Mrs. Watson) to create our area's ONLY art museum and place it under the careful stewardship of the University of Rochester is a key reason for its success.... As a resident of Rochester, going to the MAG was never high on my list. I thought "how good can it be?". I was mistaken. This place is very impressive and beautiful. The history of the museum and the works of art that is displayed is amazing. The restored pipe organ and the works of art are breathtaking. They offer... More

We enjoyed the special, temporary exhibits for which we came. However, the permanent collection includes works by many of the great masters, along with fine examples of multi-cultural art and examples of art through the ages. There is a restored pipe organ in the great hall, with concerts on Sunday afternoon. When in Rochester, NY, do not miss this gem.

This museum is nice to visit but I am never inspired to frequent unless they have a new exhibit of note. They get a lot of small exhibits but never seem to get truly exciting exhibits. When I lived in Toledo, their art gallery had exhibits highlighting Van Gogh, the art of Star Wars, 60's pop art (Warhol and others)... More

The gallery recently added and outside park the includes works by several local and national artists. The inside galleries keep a nice rotation of new shows with the permeant galleries changing things up now and then too. Nice size for this area. The surrounding "neighborhood of the Arts" has lots of shops and artist studios to look at too. Worth... More

I greatly enjoyed visiting the Memorial Gallery. It is an excellent and diverse collection for its size and is convenient to visit. Parking was no problem and staff were helpful. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area. I travelled from Michigan to visit friends nearby, and I would definitely plan to visit it again and take my grandchildren.... More

Beautiful marble sculptures, lots of historic artifacts. My favorite piece of art is the upside down rendition of American Classic" done in thousands of spools of thread. The special collection of art from the children's Golden Books was interesting

I attended"Devour Rochester" at the gallery. Beautiful venue and wonderful surroundings for tasting various artisan producers of food and wine in Rochester. If you go, make sure you visit the organ that's was rescued and restored.

Lovely collection spanning art history. Really readable and engaging labels, especially in the American collection and the newer exhibits. It took me about two hours to see everything, so it's not the kind of art museum where you get sick of it long before you're willing to stop making yourself look at things. Thursday evenings have slashed ticket prices.

Certainly worth the visit - very comprehensive and broad collection. The Maxwell Parish is breathtaking.
