This was my first visit to Rochester and the Memorial Art Gallery. My overall impression of the gallery is very positive and it's well worth the drive, or if you are in town already, it's a "must-see" destination in Rochester. It's bigger than you think and by far the best gallery in northern New York state.

This is not a review of the Art Gallery but rather of the Thursday evenings Tapas bar. Every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Gallery court becomes the scene of a casual tapas bar with live music. We decided to give it a try in order to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was very pleasant overall. The court... More

For an art gallery in a moderate sized city in a sort of post industrial part of the state, the museum is a gem. The collections are very good, well maintained, and the layout of the museum is quite pleasing. Have gone several times

I learned about art growing up from this museum, and am very familiar with many of the pieces, so I really enjoy taking guests to come and see all it has to offer. However, whenever I visit, I find more things to see, whether a visiting exhibit, the frequent new acquisitions or just the careful and beautiful curatorial work of... More

I find excuses just to drop in at The Memorial Art Gallery. The only drawback is that during busy times parking can be tricky so I've developed a habit of going on off hours. I often go to the special shows, but find myself wandering through the permanent collections to see old favorites. I recently fell in love with a... More

Although I usually stroll through this museum for the art exhibits, today I visited this wonderful museum for an entirely different purpose. My daughter was spending some of her off-from-school week by attending the MAG's (Memorial Art Gallery) art schools for children. It is a program set up to teach aspiring young artists, down to elementary school, the principles of... More

The Memorial Art Gallery of Rochester is not the largest art museum, but it is perhaps the most perfect. It has literally one of everything - one Picasso, one Renoir, one Cezanne, one Monet, one Manet, one Rembrandt, one Hals, one David, one da Vinci. It is as if the museum set out to collect exactly one painting from every... More

I actually discovered this museum because I was looking for some music during the Christmas/New Year's school break. I noticed the mini-recital on the Italian Baroque organ and built our weekend around it. We were not disappointed by either the museum or the recital. Chris Petit of the Eastman School of Music gave us a wonderful concert on the primo... More

I finally became a member of this museum because I find myself always here anyways, and I bring our out of town friends here all the time! I like it that they have a regular special exhibit so there is something new to view all the time. I never get tired hanging out in the big hall with the pipe... More

What a great art gallery. Wonderful place to spend a quiet afternoon viewing collections that span all mediums and eras. I'm not an art major, just simply enjoy the artistic beauty of talented artists. Interesting organ recitals, docent tours if you want and even can enjoy a nice bite or lunch/dinner.
