This is a top choice for Rochester tourists. It's a gem of a place: old-world charm with a fresh feel, elegant, beautiful facilities and grounds. Everything from ancient Egypt to contemporary art. Great American pre-WWII art, European treasures (Monet, Rembrandt, El Greco), crazy George Condo contemoprary clown painting. It's a lovely, quiet place, thoughtful, a wonderful retreat. If you're an... More

I was driving from Maine to Ohio with another artist friend. We stopped at 5 museums. They were all good ones, but this one was fantastic. We could take photos of everything, and the collection's and exhibitions were amazing. Congratulations to the community, you have such a rich resource at your fingertips. Everything from ancient Egypt, Roman and Greek sculpture,... More

Beautiful building, helpful staff and GREAT ART! Everyone has their favorites but what I like is to be stimulated into viewing new things i.e. not just one style of art but new dimensions in style and variety and I am always impressed with what I find. There is something here for everyone if only one pay attention.

Rochester is really well endowed when it comes to the arts. Case in point is the Memorial Art Gallery. If you haven't been there you have no idea of the quality of work in this beautiful building. And there's something for everyone. The permanent exhibits are really over whelming. If you have any kind of knowledge of artists or art... More

The best thing about this place is the silence. It's simply awesome. Of course, the art is nice too, and the curators are very good at changing exhibits, but the meditative atmosphere is really incredible. Strongly recommended if you're having a bad day. Better than church. Seriously.

I love art museums, especially on a hot afternoon. 90 degrees outside made the art inside even more appealing. Love the children's treasure hunt sheets (faces and animals). The collection was varied and an excellent representation of regional, national and international art. Really appreciated the text with each exhibit.

Recently spent the afternoon at this museum with friends and we had so much fun. It's like a mimi Metropolitan Museum. Upstairs in the older building are Egyptian artifacts, a Rembrandt, three Monet paintings, and this incredibly cool Italian Baroque Organ. In the newly designed modern and contemporary section we saw works by Iranian glass artist Monir (who just had... More

Beautiful objects but the galleries mission is unclear. Nice extended text on the second floor but the first floor was a bit confusing. Nice gift shop.

We have been enjoying Rochester for a few days and decided to visit the Memorial Art Gallery on our last day. We arrived just before the Gallery opened and happily strolled through the sculpture garden. But when we reached the desk to pay our admission things turned sour. I had noticed that our "home" art museum was on the list... More

We attended a wedding reception here. For an hour prior to the reception, guests could go through the gallery. I lived in Rochester for several years and had never visited the gallery except for events. It was lovely. A variety of exhibits was highlighted by an organist playing an Italian Renaissance organ upstairs. The galleries were spacious and well lit.... More
