We live close by and always love coming for a stroll over the bridge. We never get tired of the beautiful view. We love that the area is always kept clean. I recommend coming in the fall to view the magnificient foliage!

Great views, parking on the Poughkeepsie side was great, follow the signs. Restrooms are maintained and available.

My family was in town and was looking for a day outing. We arrived at the Highland, NY parking area - small, but you can also park on the street for free. The walk was very easy and flat. The views were great and the signage was very educational and gave you a feel for the rail bridge and the... More

We went on the bridge during a rainstorm in September. Despite the bad weather, the view from the bridge was spectacular and it really gives you an opportunity to see the town. It's free too. If you are in town it's a must see.

The Walkway Over the Hudson is a nice experience mainly because you are up high. But the views from the span are lacking in three of the four directions. The fourth view, of the Mid Hudson Bridge, is nice but not very spectacular. I'm not trying to make this out to be a disaster. The main benefit of the converted... More

This is a former train bridge (purportedly once the longest in the nation) which is now a walkway/bikeway. I highly recommend starting on the Poughkeepsie (east) side, unless it's out of the way, because there is not much at all on the west side if you are visiting the area. In Poughkeepsie there are a lot of restaurants, and other... More

Recommend parking at east end (Poughkeepsie) of bridge. A "must do" on a visit to the region. May walk or bike over the old rail bridge converted into a magnificent pedestrian bridge. If you merely want the view without walking or biking, There is an elevator at the water line on the Poughkeepsie side that takes you to the bridge... More

This was a nice walk and not too long. This walkway was an old train bridge that was converted to a walking bridge. It has historic markers along the way with some info about the bridge and the area. Watch the weather when you do this, you don't want to get stuck out on the middle of the bridge with... More

I had the privilege of walking on this bridge about twenty years ago when the deck was rickety and the handrails rusty and wobbly. It was exciting, but not the sort of thing I'd recommend to most people. Now the rickety and wobbly parts are gone, and the Walkway is on my list of "must see" sites for any visitor... More

Our family did this last year for Father's Day. It was a beautiful day to get outdoors for a walk and some quality family time and the views of the Hudson River are just spectacular. If you're a people watcher or animal lover, you'll enjoy meeting different folks and see a lot of beautiful dogs. It's an easy walk, so... More
