Last week I took the ferry for the 2nd time this year and in my life. The 1st trip was in Feb on our trip to the Olympics in Sochi (so didn't go out on the deck, burrrr). This most recent trip was for a party in Quogue LI. Sit in traffic or sit on the deck of a boat...hummm,... More

This is a convenient way to get from downtown Bridgeport, CT, to Port Jefferson on north-central Long Island, without the drive around New York City. However, the price is high and the boat seems rather old, worn and industrial, as if, like Bridgeport, it has seen better days. You're advised to use the rest-rooms at the dock, rather than the... We decided to take the ferry over to L.I. to save time in commuting. It was a great decision and we're glad we chose to do it. Coming back to CT on our return trip we decided to drive all the way which wasn't a good decision. In fact when we go back to L.I. we will definitely take the... More

I live in CT and when a beautiful Saturday or Sunday beckons me to be outside, I call the Bpt-Port Jeff Ferry! Arrive 30 min prior, get in line, and off you go. A beautiful hour-ling boat ride awaits and a wonderful town to explore with great restaurants on the other end. Whether you bring your car or just walk... More

I have taken my vehicle on the ferry several times. It is a seam-less process, especially when reservations are made. Simply drive up, give your name and you will be advised which line to get in based on the size of your vehicle. Boarding is very well organized and simple. Although it won't necessarily save you any time depending upon... More

We were traveling from the eastern portion of Long Island to Albany New York on a Sunday afternoon. It was Peurto Rican Parade day in the city and we were not looking forward to driving in city traffic on a hot day. We decided to take the ferry instead and bypass the city. It was a great choice. The parking... More

Since we live near Port Jefferson, the ferry is the quickest way to get across the sound. it is especially convenient when we know in advance when we want to leave and make a reservation. There are 2 ferries; one of them is a little faster then the other; both have lavatories and snack bars and usually are clean. The... More

Yesterday I went to Port Jeff for the first time with a friend who was visiting from Chile. We drove up to Bridgeport and parked the car across the street from the Ferry dock; it was $16 for the whole day, I know that there is a free parking lot with a shuttle somewhere, but we couldn't find it. The... More

A one day round trip ticket for a senior is $20. For that one can ride from Bridgeport to "Port Jeff", hearing the buoy bells, feeling the wind in one's face and getting a bit of vitamin D from the sun. There are many restaurants to choose from for a meal before returning. One great surprise was that there was... More

I have taken the ferry many times as the alternative of driving through NY is just as bad. The boats are fairly clean but overpriced and slow, food is horrible and drinks are over poured. A tunnel would be a great improvement
