This is border line animal abuse. Rather use the cable car or walk, much more scenic.

This was heartbreaking to say the least. The walk to the top and bottom is extreme. We walked it at sundown and only going down and it is quite the trek. Our legs were actually trembling from all the steps. Lets add extreme heat during the day and going up and down with tourists of all shapes and sizes riding... More

These donkeys are abused and suffer a lifetime of mistreatment. This is well-documented on the internet and can be seen with your own eyes. Please do not ride the donkeys in Santorini if you care at all about animal welfare. Take the cable car or walk.

OK, so I originally thought this was a bit of a tourist trap, but after a long day touring the island on our own by 4-wheeler, I have to admit it was a good and fun ending to our day. I suggest taking the tram up in the morning and the donkey down at the end of the day.

This was totally awesome and I loved it. Mules were so well behaved and gentle. I would recommend this to anyone! You don't do anything but sit on the donkey/mule and they know what to do! Thanks you Santorini for a wonderful experience!

You will luv or hate the experience , we loved it . Donkeys can go a little close to the walls at times . We did the cable car down and donkeys back to the top . Scenic all the way .

We were on a cruise boat and so got off early to do this to avoid the lines. I haven't laughed so much in ages - what a fabulous experience and the views are fantastic on the way up. Mules/donkeys don't get their reputation for being stubborn for nothing, they stop when they want to stop and go when they... More

OK, this seems to be very much something you either hated or loved! Well, we loved it – we thought it was great fun! So much that we did it 3 times during our 12-day stay in Fira … The first time was coming back from a boat trip to the volcano with our teenage daughter. She only came along... More

These donkeys are only used to take the visiting traveler, up the long path from the old Harbour at Santorini, to the town at the top of the hill. There is a cable car that costs the same - 5 Euro's, so why mistreat the animals. These poor donkeys walk up and down the mountain side path, all day the... More

We were walking up the path from the port to the beautiful town of Oia when a donkey that was making its way back down fell 5 meters downhill almost hitting our friend, who was a bit further down. The donkey was the first of a group of around ten. Because the animal was very tired it kept stopping at... More

You can tell the donkeys don't want to be taking people up a down a steep hill on hot days. There are donkey droppings everywhere and the donkeys smell really bad. You will begin to wonder if you are participating in animal cruelty. It was 40 degrees the day we visited.
