Please don't do this. It's absolutely cruel to the donkeys. They don't get any water or shade from the scorching sun. The terrain is horrendous and many fall and injure themselves and instead of being treated, they're beaten by their owners. They look terribly stressed and sad.

My husband and I stayed in Santorini for 5 nights recently and did the donkey ride up the hill twice. It was absolutely fantastic fun and I would be happy to do it again. I recommend it for anybody visiting Santorini and don't forget to check out the view as you go - WOW! On both occasions there were other... More

Got off cruise ship to be confronted with steep cliff face to get to the top of Santorini. Had 2 choices, catch cable car 5 Euro or donkey ride up zigzag road 5 Euro. Opted for donkey ride...what a blast! Great fun these donkeys were amazing, I am a big guy and was worried the donkey wouldn't make it, I... More

Donkeys treated really badly! They're forced to carry obese people 800ft up and down 600 gruelling steps in intense heat without food and water . They all look depressed and are living a terrible existence.

a donkey seems like it's a wonderful nostalgic experience but after seeing the poor condition of the donkeys, take any other mode possible. It's grueling, hot and adults are being held on by improper equipment that causes open sores at the girth area and on the back of the legs where they're obviously rubbing. I saw open wounds on most... More

In 2015 this incomprehensible and disgraceful attraction is still in force. Abused animals with obvious signs of depression, are forced to carry tourists along an endless staircase leading to the port of Fira (Thira). The animals defecate along the stairs and in their resting places. The smell of manure fills the bars and restaurants that are above Tourists "enjoy" the... More

After disembarking at Santorini from our cruise ship, we decided to ride the donkey's to the top of the town.Whilst I could definitely describe the ride as an interesting experience and something different, the cruelty these donkeys experience every day should not be allowed and I regret my choice of travel.

Please don't do this, it's like torture for the donkeys. There is no food or water, or shade from the roasting sun. Donkeys can only carry up to nine stone and most people are much much heavier than this. They look terribly sad and the owners so no regard for these animals. Walk up, go on the cable carts or... We walked down the steps, but it was not safe at all. The steps are slippery both by wear & tear and by the donkeys' excretion. Horrible experience as you cannot enjoy the senery because you have to be careful at all times! The worst thing is that the donkeys were left in the blazing sun and heat with no... More

We visited Santorini on our cruiseship just last week. We took the cable car ride up to the top from our tender to shore. The queues for the cable car to go down were very long so we decided to walk down the steps to the old port in Santorini. We did not like what we saw. There must have... More
