Exciting experience, especially for kids and young people. From Fira we went down by cable cabin especially to catch donkeys for the return (the way down on donkeys is quite scary). It costed 5 euros each. Don't accept going 2 people on the same animal, unless one of the two is a small kid. It lasts 20-30 minutes. A shower... More

We made the mistake of riding the donkeys and wish we hadn't The animals are treated miserably and the handlers are extremely rude. Not just in Fira but all over the island including Ia. We all felt horrible for the donkeys after our ride and want to help spread the word to end this tradition. I feel even more strongly... More

The donkeys are being tortured...They are kept outside with no shelter all day long under any weather conditions. During summer they are kept under the burning sun all day long. During winter they in the freezing cold, rain or under any weather conditions with no shelter plus they are in the mercy of dogs who bite them and they cannot... More

My friend and I decided to do the tourist thing and ride a donkey up the hill. This was probably one of the worst decision of my life. There is no food or water for the donkeys, on the way up mine even started eating dried up poo as it had grass in it. The donkeys just look miserable too.... More

This was SO horrible to watch. My girlfriend and I didn't want to take the donkey to the top because it looked cruel. We walked up instead in 37 degree heat - it took us 20 minutes (with the path covered in donkey dung and stunk). We were absolutely exhausted near the top and found a huge group of donkeys... More

We are a family of 4 and decided to take the donkey ride down to the boat because the line was too long at the cable car and we were afraid to miss the tender . I was the only male in the group , the other 3 saw that the donkeys were unruly and decided not to go after... More

Apart from feeling sorry for the donkey carrying all us heavy people up th slope to Fira , they are very strong and sure footed and it is great fun to hang on and let them go. They are slow sometimes then suddenly they all gather in a bit of a bottleneck and then off they go. Even my wife... More

While in Fira, my 20 year old daughter really wanted to ride the donkeys so I reluctantly agreed to do so. Unfortunately, my donkey tripped while climbing the 500+ steep steps from the Port to the top. Once the donkey fell, I broke the fall with my arms while the donkey rolled on my leg. I quickly jumped off the... More

These donkeys are kept are made to carry people up and down almost 600 steps several times a day. They are tied up and kept in the scorching hot sun all day with out water and food. It is animal Cruelty and if you pay these people to ride them you are encouraging them and contributing to animal abuse. Don't... More

My wife and 22 year old daughter chose to ride the donkeys down the steep and treacherous walkway of Santorini to the old port as a last bit of excitement on this hot, overcrowded, overrated, beautiful island. It was against my advice as it appeared poorly run by angry men with no sense of customer service or safety. As she... More
