Okay, here is the thing, the animals are treated relatively well, in that they have a shady area to rest in and have plenty of food and water. What is not so good is to see them driven to run up and down these paved stairs all day long tied to another so their necks are stretched out with usually... More

I loved doing the Donkey ride in santorini. It was so much fun. I felt sorry for the donkey but they are used to it. The views from the hills are amazing. The ride only lasts about 50 mins but it goes very quickly. Definitely worth doing while there.

A lifetime experience that I will never forget, the look at those cliffs from on top of the Donkey, the fear of it and the insecurity, but yet the feeling of wonders, risk, the unknown and the easy way of learning to yell... Hellaaa to control the Donkey. The experience of climbing such a high road on a Donkey. Walk... More

Seeing the poor donkeys walking and often forced to run, up and down the stairs all day, someone wonders why tourists choose this way to get to Fira! It is obvious that many donkeys are in bad conditions and they owners very harsh to them!!

The donkeys seem to be a traditional image for Santorini, from souvenirs to the famous rides from the beach to Fira town. But get near these poor animals and you will see they are mistreated, physically hurt, and forced to work under terrible conditions. The sun and heat are sometimes unbearable, even more so with a lazy human's weight on... More

We didn't use the donkeys as we had researched them and understood how cruel it is and didn't want to add to the poor creatures discomfort, so we paid about £5 to ride up in the cable car. We decided to walk down which was not that far although the donkey men tell you it is too far to walk... More

9 year olds point of view It is cruel because they have no water .When my mum got on they didn't bring the donkey close enough so my mum cut her finger badly. The donkey people don't care whether you hurt yourself. When my mum went up my donkey didn't move so I was by myself,it was very worrying. When... More

Thoroughly enjoyed it. All of the donkeys looked well groomed and cared for...the donkey moves at his own pace zig-zagging back and forth across the long and wide steps; so no steep incline like others mentioned. There is a wall (like all of the other walls in Santorini) along the edge...yes your donkey will take you over by the wall,... More

We had a lot of fun. Others have said it was cruel to the donkeys. I did not see injuries on any of the donkeys, and they gave each donkey a long break after each trip. You might find it uncomfortable going down, so my recommendation is to take the cable car down (which is also fun) and ride a... More

I have just met a friend back home who did visit there ..She told me how the poor donkeys had to carry people up the hill to the top..She said it was extremely hot and the donkeys got NO water.. ANIMALS... More
