I have not reviewed this from an animal welfare point of view but what I will say is that the donkeys seemed in fine fettle and well looked after. I never saw anyone beating them with sticks and there looked like plenty of water. It did seem a little dangerous but I actually think more for the people on the... More

Nightmare began when my wife & I paid the operators at Fira Harbour to return up to Fira. The operators were rude and uninterested. Waited 5 mins at the station shack for a younger guide who descended with several donkeys. the 4 other senior donkey guides were seen Bullying the younger guide. when climbing on the back of donkey we... PLEASE do NOT ride the donkeys in Santorini - they are abused and treated horribly, not to mention that the odor from all of the manure and urine in the hot sun is repulsive. The tram is the same price and is clean and fast.

Absolutely disgusting treatment of an animal. They had open sores, girth galls that had never healed. Standing in the sun for 12 hours with no food or water. Carrying fat lazy tourist up a steep hill of slippery marble stairs. This needs to be banned. I have countless photos of the cruelty done to these poor donkeys

The cable car costs the same amount - 5 Euros. Please don't support this abusive and cruel practice. Either walk for the exercise or ride the cable car.

Just back from a 7 day cruise which visited Santorini, a place we always wanted to visit. The experience spoilt the whole holiday - appalling cruelty. Donkeys and mules forced to carry often overweight tourists up and down the steep paths - no shade, no water - appalling. Never ever will we visit the island again and many others on... More

We used cable car for got down, and donkey tour for rise. It was pretty funny, but very hot, and ... I'm feel sorry for the donkeys

I walked the 600 steps up, and the 600 steps down, to get to Santorini Old Town which was exhilarating. The animals were a little niffy, naturally enough, and with careful foot placement, I was just about able to avoid their ample droppings. The only consolation for the poor animals, who had to climb the steps many time each day,... More

Do not support this if you care at all about animals. I am currently sitting on my balcony in Oia and all I hear are the donkeys being forced up and down 500 steep stairs all day long in the heat. They are yelled at and hit- it makes me want to cry every time I see it. This needs... More

This was one of the saddest sights I have ever seen. It is unbelievable how ignorant humans can be. I actually saw these donkeys panting and terrified. No water in sight and being whipped. Let me tell you, these donkeys would much rather be in the fields running free with shade to sit in. We saw several on the island... More
