We had a lot of fun. Others have said it was cruel to the donkeys. I did not see injuries on any of the donkeys, and they gave each donkey a long break after each trip. You might find it uncomfortable going down, so my recommendation is to take the cable car down (which is also fun) and ride a... More

I am so pleased now that we didn't get as far as Santorini on a recent visit to Crete.. I have just met a friend back home who did visit there ..She told me how the poor donkeys had to carry people up the hill to the top..She said it was extremely hot and the donkeys got NO water.. ANIMALS... More

Strongly recommended for those who want some extreme and adventure during their holidays. It's funny enough. Also bear in mind that better don't try to take a photos while you are on top of donkey, otherwise, you can fall down.

I recently cruised the Mediterranean which included a visit to Santorini. We walked down the donkey track and I was disgusted and upset to see the donkeys standing on hard surfaces in the heat and with no water. It sounds awful but they would be better off dead than suffering this torture. Look into the beautiful eyes of these donkeys... More

The average ranking is not due to animal cruelty as this is an income stream, remembering that Santorini as a tourist destination operates for only six months every year. I think I would rather ride a donkey and get the income for them to continue living than being shot. Whilst there is always an element if animal cruelty when animals... More

Awful that this cruelty is still going on. Donkeys and Mules forced to carry, often overweight people, up and down the steps all day in blistering heat. They have no water or hay - desperate plight. I would never visit this Island again - barbaric.

This form of transportation is cruelty in the extreme. The poor creatures are clearly not cared for , unkempt and covered in sores and injuries. The men who run this barbaric trade have no idea how to look after them and are just in it for profit. The animals have to drag themselves up a really steep hill in horrific... More

I have not reviewed this from an animal welfare point of view but what I will say is that the donkeys seemed in fine fettle and well looked after. I never saw anyone beating them with sticks and there looked like plenty of water. It did seem a little dangerous but I actually think more for the people on the... More

Nightmare began when my wife & I paid the operators at Fira Harbour to return up to Fira. The operators were rude and uninterested. Waited 5 mins at the station shack for a younger guide who descended with several donkeys. the 4 other senior donkey guides were seen Bullying the younger guide. when climbing on the back of donkey we... PLEASE do NOT ride the donkeys in Santorini - they are abused and treated horribly, not to mention that the odor from all of the manure and urine in the hot sun is repulsive. The tram is the same price and is clean and fast.
