I have visited Zala Park on regular basis from 2003 to 2011 and never saw a monkey in the park . This being said, i am a little worried about the comments posted in 2013.It seems that the park is really struggling to survive. What you should know about the park : - The original project is all about reptiles... More

ZALA Park was set up by a local school teacher (Mohammed) who's aim was to educate the local community about the animals in the forest surrounding them. The reptiles and mammals in the forest are often killed by the locals due to superstitious beliefs and traditions (often related to witchcraft), ZALA park is trying to eradicate these beliefs through education.... We were asked by our Jozani Forest guide if we’d be interested in seeing small animals, so we ended up here. Our suspicion quickly arose. Materials are very simple and the place doesn’t look suited to hold animals. The worst encounter was with a monkey who was held with a rope on his leg. The poor little thing clearly wasn’t... More

A sad place which has nothing much to do with a park or an animal land... Rather a zoo than a park. Rather go to Jozani forest and see animals free.

It was very interesting to see how the animals were being cared for.The impression was that there was not a lot of funding taking place but the area was well kept and clean and the animals looked healthy and well taken care off. The guide was very informative and made a good impression.

Great opportunity to see reptiles and animals that you don't usually get to see unless you're very lucky. They have snakes, large monitor lizards, diuk diuks, terrapins, but most importantly a beautiful chameleon. The guide was very friendly and knowledgable and he was happy to let you hold pythons, lizards and all manner of reptiles.

Owner tries to educate the children and rid the community of ages old superstitions about native and rare animals. Does a good job with the materials available.

This is a well-established and family-run reptile park which does fantastic work in educating Zanzibari schoolchildren about their endemic species. Most of the animals and reptiles are held in small open-air enclosures so you get to be really close to them and you can handle them if you wish. I really enjoyed the visit, the guide (mohammed, the owner) was... More

Zala Sanke Park is an essential educational resource for the local Zanzibari School children who get to know how to handle their wildlife safely. The fact that tourists are allowed to also visit ensures there are enough funds to subsidise the work being done. The guide was knowledgeable and clearly knew how to handle the animals. There is a regular... More
