We were just so lucky with clear skies. Only on the island for a few hours we took a local taxi for a tour and were rewarded with some great views, particularly of the harbour area. It is a bumpy road but perfectly acceptable and well worth the effort.

It is a long cobbled road which runs from Mindelo up to the top of green mountain, quite narrow in parts with steep slopes in many parts and many bends, some hairpins and with vertiginous drops on the side. It's an experience to drive but it is easily driven. We went up by coach with a group but others went... More

My sister and I decided to walk up Monte Verde as it as an overcast afternoon and we fancied a bit of a hike. We took a taxi to the foot of Monte Verde (although we originally drove past it and had to drive back when we realised we were approaching the other side of the island) and asked the... More

Very nice view, but you need a good timing. Open and clear sky is required. Combine the Monte verde together with a half day drive around the island. Very unique landscape to discover!

Highest point in San Vicente, where you can profit of a privileged view of the island. Make sure it is not cloudy!

The views are slightly obstructed from the peak, as there is a military and communications installation at the top, but the entire trek up the mountain road offers amazing views of the island. Including views of nearby Santo Antao, Santa Luzia, and Mindelo; as well as beach landscapes on the eastern side of the island. This is definitely worth a... More

A must do to appreciate just how dry this island is. The road is stable, and narrows in a few spots which can be tricky if passing a bus. Cobble/brick road surface makes it harder to walk up, so driving is recommended. Clouds can be tricky, but apparently come and go quickly so you can head up in clouds and... More

Reached the summit of the highest point on the island, but cloud came over spoiling the view. Very windy and cool. Lower down on our descent and below the clouds, spectacular views of Mindelo could be seen, a good photo opportunity. Several young people were walking to the summit, but as we were much older, we took a car ride.... More

it is just great, you can see the whole island of S.Vicente. Anyone visiting Cape Verde should really go to the top of this mountain and enjoy the view!

Road signs are lacking in Sao Vicente, so a map and a good sense of direction help. That said the island is small and traffic light outside town. We hired a car in town and drove around the island with several steps in less than 4 hours. The beaches are stunning especially the long one ( Calheta Grande) with sand... More
