We took a walk with a state park guide to look for seals. There were snowy owls and beautiful rocks. It was cold but still wonderful.

Review for the Point Woods Loop Trail and the beginnings of Sea Haul Out Trail. Came here with a group of friends and 2 dogs. Online information for the start of the Point Woods Loop Trail was lacking. Here are the coordinates of the start of the trail: Good maps coordinates: 41.067931,-71.878987 As you drive on Camp hero Rd, you... More

My friend and I took a drive through Long Island, driving along Montuak Hwy through the Hamptons until reaching Montauk Point. It is at the end of the island. There is a restaurant and pier/boardwalk area which is good for watching for marine life. We saw a few seals or otters bobbing in the water (too far to tell what... More

Aside from the impressive lighthouse, the park marks the very end of Long Island. You can watch the surf fishermen, harbor seals, birds, etc...from a number of great vantage points. There are trails to follow. (Watch out for ticks!) The park also has a restaurant in the summer season.

pros: panoramic views great place for a nice stroll scenic drive out to the area the swings! cons: parking fee expensive bar in the area lighthouse admission is expensive ultimately, a good place to kill a few hours. when we went it wasn't too busy as it was midweek.

Montauk State Park is located at the far east end of Long Island's south fork and is only accessible by Rte 27 (Montauk Hwy). The park has a parking fee, but is free to Empire Passport holders. Within the park sits several hiking and beach trails, a restaurant with a (very expensive) bar, picnic areas, a 4x4 area for permitted... More

Visited here labor day weeekend ... It was fun, though the traffic was horrible. Ofcourse it was labor day weekend but I would suggest checking the traffic if you are travelling on a weekend..... esp coz the highway ( route 27 ..don't know if i can call it highway , travel speed of 30 /hr) runs through the hampton towns... Montauk State Park boasts the literal end of Long Island and has the standard accommodations of NY State Parks. The views are incredible and you might want to have a few quarters if you want to use the public binoculars to view the southern coastline of LI, Block Island, CT, or if you are lucky enough - catch a view...
