The east coasts version of Malibu. Large waves, young athletic bodies, and lots of surfing. Easy to find, centrally located in an area with a number of fun eating places and seaside shops. Montauk is trending upward each and every year and Ditch plains is now known nationally.
When it comes to surfing and beach action, this is the place. Can get excellent surfing instruction -- or just watch the action. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Great local beach with friendly people. The Ditch Witch serves a great breakfast. Love to visit our niece and nephew who live in Ditch
Ya need permits for parking or else you WILL get a summons. The beaches are cool with surfers, boards and babes hangin out. A small concessionair keeps food in the stomach. Sand dunes and a small jetty make this an attractive beach.
on our recent visit to Montauk, my boyfriend and I couldn't visit Ditch Plains because there is literally nowhere to park. you can only get there if you take a taxi or have a visitor's pass from your hotel - ours did not have them. if they are trying to keep visitors away and keep this beach exclusive to surfers,...

Nice to be able to watch surfers. There are even benches. Food trailer right there in the 2nd parking lot which is great for hanging out. Nothing fancy just pleasant.
This beach is to crazy, parking sucks. and everytime i go the surfers are just sitting there, never surfing.
Terrific for boogie boarding and surfing. Also great for taking long walks. There are some jellyfish that sting and caused a rash. There are jellyfish along the beach but just small amounts and most of which are clear.
kids took surf lessons on this beach. A very cool experience. Rocky beach so a little hard on the feet but great for finding mussels and crabs and starfish.
