This is a wonderful monumental landmark with much history. This Lighthouse has been serving since 1792 with authorization by President George Washington. There is a gift shop and museum to enjoy and on the grounds there is a restaurant. We did not go inside to see the gift shop, museum or restaurant. We enjoyed the panoramic views of the Atlantic.... Party of 5. Had to pay for parking (seriously?) and got there only to find out we had to pay $10 each to get in. Take the free walk down by the waters and enjoy the view from there instead.

Since we stayed right near the ocean, we didn't have to go far, but we always make sure to go to the lighthouse beach to see seals basking on the rocks.

Most of us read about and looked at photos of lighthouses, but how many people have actually seen one? If you want to see one of the most majestic lighthouses on the East Coast of the United States, you should come to Montauk. It's far from New York City, you might lose cell phone connection multiple times on the way... More

For the record, I visited the Montauk Point Lighthouse prior to February 2015. It was during the winter time, so there was ample parking. The trek to the top is not for everyone, with the winding stairwell. Of course... it is a lighthouse. The views were amazing, and the hosts were very informed and friendly.

An historical treasure speaking of times long passed. Great place to take the kids and explain to them ehat early life on Long Island was all about.

I was skeptical about visiting Montauk in the winter but this place doesn't lose its charm and glory even in the freezing New York winter. The sun was shining bright and the wind was crisp and refreshing. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because we couldn't go inside the lighthouse itself and the shops around were closed. Still a... It's unfortunate the lighthouse is closed in the winter, but the views for picture-taking were amazing! There are neat walking paths and watching the surfers is always fun!
