We hiked the Gorge trail and it was absolutely beautiful. It is step in sections with a lot of steps so you really get a good workout. We started in the upper parking lot and went all the way to the bottom where there is a swimming hole with a life guard. I loved that the entire trail was along... More

I arrived in Ithaca on Saturday the 19th, checked into my place, and decided to drive straight to Buttermilk Falls State Park around 7 PM. What was great about arriving late was the sun had started to set, making it easier to get high quality photos of the spectacular waterfalls on the Gorge Trail. Another plus of arriving late in... Visited for one day it was worth the time we spent. There is a small but perfect picnic area, swimming area, rest rooms, and water fountain. The view of the fall is picture perfect, the best thing to do is have a nice simple picnic and walk to the top of the falls. The walk can be a bit difficult... More

Our first state park and we were just amazed. Pick up a map at the gate and you are good to go. Washrooms were clean and we ate before we hiked. The falls were right there at the south entrance so if you are unable to go further, you get a fantastic view. Going up is the way to get... More

Love this spot! We went in early May and there was still ice around but it was warm enough to hike comfortably in a hoodie. Buttermilk Falls is awesome around this time of year because it's closed off to the public and you can usually get the place to yourself. I'm sure it's great year round though.. There's swimming allowed... More

This was the cutest spot! Totally unexpected and just gorgeous. We felt like we were hiking in the amazon with the gorgeous waterfalls and scenery around every corner. Be prepared for a fun hike, it's steep but you can do it just wear proper hiking shoes and bring a snack and at least two waters per person. We planned a... More

Buttermilk Falls State Park is a few miles south of Ithaca. We took the Gorge Trail, about 3/4 mile that starts at the bottom of Buttermilk Falls and climbs upwards. There are several places where you must navigate sections of stone-dirt steps. Although the distance is short, the hike here is somewhat strenuous because of the steep steps you must... More

This was the first of a few state parks we toured. We made the mistake of walking the Rim Trail first, We were looking for the waterfalls, not the woods. Lesson learned quickly. As the rim trail is steep and up hill in this direction. Beautiful park and a wonderful waterfall right at the entrance of the park.

Our favorite because you can hike with the dogs and the upper pools seem to be OK for swimming,,, we saw many kids swimming but no lifeguards and it is a steep stair hike but beautiful and well worth it.
