Lovely state park with many trails for hiking and easily accessible for ambulatory and non-ambulatory adults alike.
Buttermilk Falls was easy to get to from Cornell. It is basically an easy hike, although steps are a bit uneven. The falls are beautiful as you hike up through to the top. Would an amazing place to just relax after a day of classes.
Awesome five mile hike that is more or less a loop up (up up) the rim trail, over to bear trail around the lake, and back down the rim trail. If you have knee or other issues, take a walking stick for the hike down. Absolutely beautiful hike.
We went in Nov 13 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The fall is very pretty and is an excellent place for those who loves photography. My children 6 and 12 y.o. enjoyed the gorge trial which is quite easy to walk. Will definitely go again if given the opportunity. Unlike the previous reviewer, the fall is easy to find.
We wanted to go to the closest falls site to the town of Ithaca and tried parking at both upper and lower lots, signs were not marked and there were no clear trails . Very pretty area but it was impossible to find a trail. We finally gave up and went to Robert Treman State Park just a few minutes... More
My husband and I were in the Finger Lakes area and decided to spend a day taking a look at some of many waterfalls in the area. We started the morning at Watkins Glen State Park so when we got to the Buttermilk Falls we found that the trail was very steep. We only went part way because we had... More
It's a nice walk - up hill on steep steps for about half an hour or so to the top of the falls - lots of waterfalls that keep coming - sparkling pools and great rock formations along the trail. But it's not for the elderly who can't climb stairs or go down steep hills. You will need good walking/hiking/running... More
The Finger Lake area of New York state is really beautiful in the fall. The hills were all in color and the countryside is such a serene place to visit. Our first adventure of the day was to the Buttermilk Falls State Park. We started at the bottom of the main falls and walked up several stairs over a half... More
We had been walking several trials in other state parks the same day, so the stairs from the parking area up the Gorge Trail next to the water, were rather hard to take; At the end of the day! However it was really beauteful. At the buttom there was a possibility to swim in the water from the fall. Did... More
It was quick and breathtaking and it quickly took my breath away as I hike up the first half of the falls! It doesn't take very long if you are in good health and is the perfect morning hike. The falls are absolutely beautiful and I even snuck in a few yoga poses!
