We have, for six years, traveled the Finger Lakes in the off season (after Labor Day) and find it very relaxing. This Falls is a gentle sloping falls, has a swimming area at the base (with lifeguards during the season) and a gentle path, on the south side, to travel up the falls and feeder stream. Free parking is available.

Went here for hiking. We enjoyed the hiking trails, which were fantastic! Get ready for a workout though, since there are a lot of stairs!

We went to buttermilk after visiting Taughannock. It was a short drive. We only visited the upper falls area of buttermilk. It was nice. We saw people swimming (even though there were signs saying not to). A lot of little waterfalls, and not as busy as the other parks. Lots of greenery and nice photo ops. Not as nice as... More

Came here to swim for just a couple hours. The swimming area is at the foot of a gentle waterfall and is very scenic. There is a diving board too.

Exactly as the locals told us, this state park is fantastic - don't bother with the rim trail as it's really unexciting, but the bear trail and gorge trail are great. The falls are spectacular - the one 'must see' place in Ithaca!

Buttermilk Falls is named for the whitish patina of the Falls themselves. It is a beautifully laid out place with both easy and challenging trails. Splendid hiking and helpful park personnel add to the experience. Also, you can challenge yourself on tough terrain or take an easy hike or just sit inside the park entrance for a splendid view of... Amazing scenery! The higher up you climb, the more spectacular it becomes. There is a waterfall about 1/2 mile up the trail that you can stand under then swim in the area below. Breathtaking!

These falls are so beautiful. Right off the road. Swimming section had closed on Sept 1st. Trails marked well. Took the "gorge trail" going up. Do yourself a favor and go back down the same path. We crossed the bridge at Pinnacle Rock to head back down the "rim trail". Say goodbye to the falls, cause you don't seem them... More

It's a beautiful sight when you first drive in, by the way, 105 Enfield Falls Rd is not the correct address, our GPS took us a mile and a half west of where the buttermilk falls state park actually is, although it's on the same street... It's def a beautiful sight and the base of the falls is where they... More

The name of the falls becomes clear the minute you lay eyes on it. It is long and cascades down natural rock steps that constantly churns the water. There were only a few tables available if you brought your lunch with you. There was a trail that went up one side of the falls and did not appear to steep... More
