Went for a short hike with my family (children ages 6 and 9). Took the steeper, but short trail running beside the falls. It was a beautiful, peaceful walk, with lovely views. Highly recommend a visit. We were disappointed that swimming is closed for the rest of the season. Don't know why, but when we looked in the water at... More

Lovely, but hard to find for those who are not accustomed to upper and lower parks with upper and lower parking lots!!!! We encountered several other out-of-towners in the upper park also looking for the falls....which are in the lower section with an entirely different entrance and parking lot.

We camped at Robert H. Treman State Park and visited Buttermilk Falls. It also has a smaller swimming hole. The hike to Buttermilk Falls is more arduous than the short hike to Lucifer Falls from the upper entrance. We also checked out the camping area. The sites are smaller than those at Robert H. Treman. If you are pressed for... More

This falls is located near ithaca, making it easy to access by car or with the bus transportation system. The falls are definitely gorgeous. For those who do not want to hike, an incredible view is accessible at parking level. It's possible to swim there near the waterfalls. For those who enjoy hiking, going all the way up to the... We has a very nice hike along the Buttermilk Creek and saw many waterfalls. The hike upstream on the gorge trail was moderately steep, but plenty of areas to rest and enjoy the views. We hiked down the rim trail, less steep but fewer views.

Nice falls and swimming area. Water was 69 degrees so be prepared for that. Our 3 and 4 year old swam for a little bit and then we hiked up the stairs to an overlook. There is an adjacent playground that is very nice. We spent more time there than at the falls. The ladies restroom was absolutely terrible. It... More

This beautiful park near Ithaca, New York, has spectacular views as you make your way up the seemingly endless stairs to the top. Many portions of the path are in disrepair, however, and at times you feel as if you are on an obstacle course. You must wear appropriate footwear (way too many people in flip flops) and be prepared... More

Great place to hike, but steep and the terrain is uneven (i.e. avoid hiking in flip flops). The trail up to the lake is uphill for a mile and a half, but it's lovely and worth it. Down by the lower falls is a GREAT playground. This summer (2015) swimming is only open Friday-Sunday. Get to the park early as... More
