If you'd like to avoid the crush of industrial skiing at Hunter, I highly recommend Belleayre, where the trails are nicely groomed and frequently all yours for a few dozen yards at a time. There's a sufficient number of runs to occupy you for a day and the longer ones girdling the outside of the network of trails permit for... More

I have been here with my wife and a 5 and 8 yo sons several times now and the place is nice. The people are friendly and ski instructors are well prepared. This place is perfect for small kids who want to learn to ski. Group lessons are not crowded. I highly recommend Belleayre Ski Resort for family with small... More

Seems like a nice enough place with friendly staff, however beware of the holiday promotion where you supposedly receive a voucher lift ticket. We skiied today and only one very short beginner run was open, but we thought we would go anyway because of the voucher. Afterward we were told that because we got a lift ticket and rental package... Ok food. The lodge is very old, so that is sort of ugly. The lifts are uncomfortable, but for skiing, if you are a beginner it is pretty good.

We took our 6 year old for her first ski lessons a few times this past winter. The learning area with ramp is great for less courageous kids and after a couple of days she moved on to the beginner slope. The lodge has basic food and most people don't bother with lockers and leave their things all over the... More

Belleayre has been killing it these past two winters, with consistently AWESOME pow pow. Being able to ski right onto the lift is THE best, and you really get your money's worth when you come to Belleayre. I definitely recommend this place for intermediate - advanced skiers because of the layout and available trails. Some tips for the newbies -... More

We parked at the lower level parking lot (down steps from the rental building). I asked if there were lockers in the lodge between the beginning and advanced slopes and was told that the only lockers were beside the rental building. It took three attempts to get a locker that worked (and lost several dollars of quarters in broken lockers).... More

The ski slopes are good, not as crazy as the nearby Hunter or Windham. So, perfect for a family with kids learning to ski. So, we signed up our 4 year old for a group lesson at $30. Our boy, however, once the time came for the lesson, threw a fit (we later learned he wasn't feeling well; stomach virus),... More

Came here with my fiance while we were on a weekend getaway in Woodstock. I am used to skiing Vermont and other larger hills, but she had never been skiing before. The lodges are older, but you can see the work they are doing to update everything. The chair lifts are old, but I'm sure they will be updated in... More

Its not Aspen but relatively close to NYC without the crowds of Hunter Mt. Day I skied there (at end of Feb) conditions were great. We have had a lot of snow in the East this year. Food is OK, facilites are OK, but separating beginners at bottom and more advanced at top with a lodge in between works well.... More
