It's the heavy equipment that makes this mine a winner over the competition. Don't judge it by first impression, it's a "diamonds in the rough". We were skeptical upon driving in and seeing the rustic setting, but as soon as we started mining, we were convinced. They have bulldozers and other heavy equipment which keeps visitors happy because there is... More

We visited the mine after reading reviews which suggested that this was the more authentic mining experience of the two main facilities. Certainly it did not fail in that aspect. It was pretty much open season to mine where you wanted and there was plenty of raw material available all over the place. The gift shop was small but nice,... More

We have always went to Crystal Grove to mine and for a change we wanted to try our luck at a different place. We went to the Ace of Diamonds. When we got there we rented a camp site for 2 days. We were sent to a site that was full of poison ivy and a long hike to get... More

We visited the Ace of Diamonds mine over Memorial Day weekend 2014. The day was partly cloudy - not the best for crystal hunting, but that's the day we had! We left due to 1. Crazy rain/thunderstorm and 2. Fatigue from breaking rocks. :) The folks @ AoD were super friendly. They have a great shop at the mine where... More

If you're intent on smashing incredibly hard rocks, this is the place to do it. A few hundred feet down from the Herkimer Diamond Mine, $10 gets you the privilege of searching piles of rock for Herkimer diamonds. Once you know what to look for, you'll probably leave with a handful of beautiful crystals. Quite the selection of people from... More

Probably as hard as diamond mining, Herkimer Diamonds are worth a fraction of real diamonds but the hunt is what it is all about. Good hard work may reward some, take sunscreen, expect nothing and when you do find something feel great. All kinds of folk from everywhere stop by here. Eyes down and careful not to trip, this is... If you have a child who loves Minecraft as much as ours does - or one who just wants to try his/her hand at mining, this is the activity for you. Very reasonably priced to mine for rare Herkimer diamonds. Tough and time consuming but man, when you find a diamond, you feel as though you have won the lottery.... More

This is our second year to visit the Ace of Diamonds mine and I am already looking forward to next year. The time goes so fast and you can find some Herkimer Diamonds if you take the time to crack a few rocks or just look around the piles of dirt and stones. Can't wait to go back!!!
