My family went into the store and the owners were very unfriendly and rude. We basically turned around and left. We did not go to the Herkimer mine, but it looked much more friendly and family oriented. more

I agree with 'lovovid' post. There are many gems to be found but you really have to work hard for them! Fun for all three generations on trip! Our group of six ranged from 6 to 64 years old and all had a great time pounding rocks. These rocks are HARD! If you want to find Herkimer Diamonds, then you need to look to the Ace Of Diamonds Mine. The crystals are high quality. Be prepared to work as well. I have been wanting to pick Herkimers for 40 years and finally got the time to take my son Joe to the Ace of Diamonds Mine.... We collected there for 5 days and had the best time ever...
