Fun Time on the Rock Gang!

My fam stopped here en route to Massachucettes. It was lots of fun! The staff were very nice and provided tips on finding diamonds. There is also beautiful scenery in the surrounding area. Pricing was good and fair, equipment available to rent. Spent a few hours on a beautiful afternoon and left with a fair amount of booty! Would recommend!

Soo much fun. I went for the first time back in May 2015, and thought it was soo much fun, my boyfriend and i went back again in October. You need a hammer and own equipment, and it was my first time mining, so to me it was a great deal of fun. The only thing you really need to... More

Did you ever picture yourself hammering away on a rock pile and enjoying it? Well you will here, no matter your age. The three of us (all adults) picked up mallets and picks at reception (for which there is small additional charge which you can avoid by bringing your own) and joined other adults and children on the rock piles... We camped right there at the mine! The clanging of the sledgehammers on rock is music to your ears and rings through the air from 9 am - 5 pm. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly and if you listen to their tips, you'll find diamonds! The Herkimer Diamonds sure fooled me! These crystal-clear double-terminated chunks of... We spent the entire day prior to this visit up the street at the KOA Herkimer mine and had extremely limited luck. Based on reviews, we decided to spend our next half day of our trip at Ace instead of returning to KOA. We are VERY glad that we did. First, Ace offers plenty of tools and equipment for rental... While this look like a blast, smashing rocks, finding quartz crystals and there is something to be said about finding them yourself. I have done my fair share of rock and crystal mining and opted to by some samples from the gift shop. I know, I am not a true miner but it's fun to see where your stones come... More

The Ace of Diamonds Mine is like the "meat and potatoes" of places to search for Herkimer Diamonds. It is not fancy, but has the goods. They offer supplies to rent (cheap) such as hammers, screens, and chisels. They refresh the stock piled mining area with new material often (maybe weekly, but I'm not sure) and you don't have to... What a cool place to stop. Be sure you're dressed comfortably for the weather. They rent all of the equipment needed. I suggest gloves and safety glasses. You should have good luck finding Herkimer Diamonds here since it's still an active mine unlike the KOA up the road. I have had equally good luck screening through the dirt as I... More

They will supply you with all the tools you need, but a few extra items would be helpful. I recommend stout boots, sunscreen, knee pads, a big hat, work gloves, water, and some non-steroid anti-inflammatory. Perhaps a camp stool. And someone to hold a parasol over you. Even starting first thing in the morning in September, it was HOT. We... More

I went to the Ace of Diamonds Mine with a couple of my friends for a weekend trip. We camped on their property and mined there for 3 days. The campsites were small, and close to each-other, but the other campers were so nice that we didn't mind. The campsites are close to the mining area and bathrooms, so we... More
