This KOA Campground is very nice, but the Herkimer "diamond mine" associated with it has very slim pickings compared to a few years ago. Still fun for families to hunt for the naturally faceted clear quartz crystals.

The place is GREAT for kids or that romantic stop to prospect for your "diamond". I'm really not sure what your odds are for finding a stone like the one set shortly after the mine first opened. I was told by the antique dealer who sold it to me that it had the provenance to establish the veracity of the... More

Great fun activity. Found some Herkimer Diamonds, learned a great deal from the very helpful and friendly staff. Mineral Shop is great place to learn and buy things.

went with 5 boys- age range 4-12. Who would have thought that smashing rocks would provide hours of fun? They want to go back.

We were all able to find lots of "diamonds" without having to try too hard! Reasonable prices for mining!

This facility includes a museum, a store where both rough and finished stones can be purchased, and the actual mine where you can search for the crystals that are the Herkimer diamonds. this would be a fun thing for kids, and adults can also enjoy a visit here. There is also a KOA Campground across the 2 lane road, with... More

The kids had a blast (ages 7-9). However, finding diamonds is hard work! For the price for 4 kids and 2 adults, you get way more value than you would get going to a movie. Highly recommend for family entertainment.

I enjoyed my time at the mines. Found tons of little Herkimers throughout the rocks. Also we paid to have them dig a vug out for us which was a really great experience. Got some great specimens!

First visit since I was a kid. Pretty well picked over by this time of year and we only spent 2 1/2 hrs there but I found a few gems. Some of the other folks who were there all day had some beauties. All in all it's just a fun way to spend some time, a thrill-of-the-hunt experience, and I... More
