Loved it!

Went camping with the kids, lots of nice people around. Of course, finding diamonds is a little girls dream!

We enjoyed our time here as it was certainly very different from our usual holiday activities! The information film was interesting and we loved the museum exhibits. We did find a few chips of 'diamonds' which are now in my mineral collection! I would recommend wearing sturdy shoes as it is quite difficult to walk across the stones to the... More

We made a stop here as part of a bus tour to mine for some "diamonds" which are actually quartz crystals. We started out with a briefing on the upstairs floor of the building where we were told some facts and history and had a question and answer session. There were some beautiful items on display upstairs, including a group... More

My family has visited the mine twice now and we have enjoyed it each time. It's mostly luck, but there is a possibility for you to walk away with some nice "diamonds" from the mine. It's a lot of work, and I would suggest bringing your own tools if you have them because all that is provided is a mini-sledge... More

Very tourist trappy. We camped and mined down the street. Stopped to see the museum which costed $2 per person. It was worth $2, but not much more. It is located upstairs from the gift shop. We were going to do the sluice bags, but the guy behind the counter was carefully inserting a variety of treasures into the dirt... More

Do yourself and favor and read the reviews carefully and know what to expect. First, the museum is very interesting if you are into rocks / gems / minerals. They have an extensive collection of many things you don't usually see. My son is an avid rock collector (and two time science Olympiad champion in rocks / minerals) and was... More

We had fun looking for Herkimer diamonds and did find one that they made into a neckless for the wife. We enjoyed the diamond museum and the talk about the Herkimer diamonds. Using the hammer to find the diamonds was not a lot of fun but asked for a bag of dirt and use the water just outside the store... More

Let me start by saying I think 3.5 stars is a more accurate rating. A "poor" rating seems ridiculous, but so does an "excellent". First of all, the website for Herkimer diamond doesn't emphasis enough that you need to come prepared if you embark on a day trip out there. Keep in mind, it isn't really "near" anything, so it'll... My teen son and husband enjoyed the experience. Start early, we got there late and only had about an hour. Not really Diamonds, actually quartz crystals, the stones look diamond cut. There are discounts if you you are KOA. We were just passing through.

Excellent for children in love with all sorts of rocks, stones etc.. I little much for older guests... But you can always not actually go into the quarry
