Be prepared: to get dirty, to swing a hammer, to spend countless hours... We came as a fun stop amidst our road trip and thought, "We'll stay a little while, find some diamonds and be on our way." I'm here to say it's not that easy. We were here 2.5 hrs and didn't find any diamonds, but our kids did... More

My husband and I went for the day. So much fun! Very well kept, clean restrooms, friendly staff, interesting museum and gift shop. Also had a beautiful and very affordable campground across the street. Snack bar was usual snack bar food with good prices, although we did not eat there. You can bring a lunch and snacks as there are... More

Last June was First time at the mine with 11 yr old grandson, who was simply enthralled with everything he did from panning gemstones to Crystal mining to the upstairs museum to making a piece of jewelry for his mom. Could not wait to return in 2015. A super day outdoors for any Rock hound young or not so young.

I stayed at the koa which is not good at all (do not understand all the great reviews)I see where this could be a good time in the mine, but the store is overrated as the jewelry is only fair to good quality ,all the museum is not very good at all, and the biggest issue is that it is... More

Great place for kids and adults... educational and fun. It is wonderful how you can use their equipment to hunt for the diamonds. We were able to find some sweet small pieces just looking around on the ground.

Im a native of upstate ny, so I have been here quite a few times, I love it here. just make sure you wear a good pair of sneakers , and go for it. Trying to find them is the exciting part. They also have the most beautiful gift shop I have ever seen. So come to the Herkimer diamond... More

This was definitely an interesting experience for our three grandchildren. The woman who checked us in was not overly friendly, but did her job, and that was it. As far as the mining experience - we did find a number of small "diamonds", but nothing very big. To keep the kids interested we did purchase some larger "diamonds" at the... More

Great adventure for the family. In addition to the mine, (quarry to be more accurate) the history and museum upstairs is pretty cool too. Rocks minerals and geodes from around the world, fossils, and even a dinosaur skull. My daughters are 6,8,9 and they loved sifting through rocks and finding slivers of rocks that resembled diamonds - for about 2... More
