This was a great experience. The October day was beautiful and the boat captain was very knowledgeable and friendly. He used to be a director in the NYS organization that runs the canal before he retired. Bob

This was a 90-minute trip on the canal, thru a lock & back. We had Captain Jerry as our pilot & had a great time. The sound system was the best that I ever experienced on this type of cruise. A wealth of information about how the canals were started and continue today. Gems on the Mohawk gift shop is... More

We took the 90 minute cruise and enjoyed it. It took us about five miles down the canal (which is not the original Erie Canal, but a later version of it), through a lock that was described as being very close to its original condition and equipment, turned around and came back through the same lock (first time lowered the... We chartered the Sam Patch for a dinner cruise through the Erie Canal. The good: 1. Short and sweet 2. Great way to see the Erie Canal and learn about some history The bad: 1. The Sam Patch was a smaller more intimate boat, which I liked but it was only through the residential areas and no city views. 2.... More

The lock experience itself and the narration from knowledgeable captain was cool. It raises and lowers you around 20 feet. Its amazing technology from decades ago so to still work, I tip my hat to the engineers that designed it. Other cool feature was hearing the prerecorded narration say you could travel from NY to Florida over 1000 miles and... More

90 minute trip up the Erie Canal, on an open sided boat, with Captain Jerry. Lovely scenery all along the way, but the highlight was going through lock 18. We went into the lock, the level was lowered by 20 feet, and then we went out the other side. The process was then reversed. Captain Jerry gave us an informative... More

Erie Canal Cruises out of Herkimer, NY may not be the longest boat tour you'll ever take, but it sure going to be one of the most historic. History comes alive with the cheerful boat pilot and his crew. Leaving Herkimer, NY, the roomy boat heads down the Mohawk River where we quickly leave the River and enter the Canal....(the... More
