Ok so this is not a tourist place, its a beach for the locals, music on the boardwalk, crab shack, lifeguards and lots of space. Parking is amazing there is so much of it.

Don't waste your time going here. The outer beach is never open when you want it to be. The Outer Beach closures are sporadic, and the staff rarely wants to explain why the beach is closed. Total Bummer, because the beach is convenient for so many people. Don't waste your money on the outer beach pass, I know that I... More

there's a HUGE parking lot and a wonderful beach. at one side is the shimmering blue ocean, at the other, a small cliff. more rocks underfoot than sand, though, so don't take your shoes off. a lot of unique shell, such as sharks' eyes, scallops, and slippers. my daughter went into shell-hunting mode and hunched over the beach for the... We've been here dozens of times.....great beach, huge parking lot, very nice, informative nature display just inside the park at the federal building. The west side of the entrance is part of the Fire Island National Seashore, to the east is the county park. Camping available here with permit.

If you want to camp by the beach, this is the best. We lucked out and got a full hook up spot, right on the beach, at the last minute. The people were wonderful to work with and the internet was delightful surprise. Well worth visiting. The beach was literally steps away, I didn't have to put on shoes and... More

Stopped by Smiths Point Beach one evening while visiting my brother in NY. Live music playing and quite a few people on the beach. Walked for awhile thinking about how large the beach use to be when I was a child. Use to have to walk a mile to get to the bathrooms or snack bar all while our feet... More

Great place to camp or visit if you like the beach or go 4X driving along the beach. You have to be a suffolk county resident but it's fun and worth it if you are and have a vehicle that is worthy of trekking out on the sand.

We visit this park in the evenings. It is very crowded during the day in summer. Great sunsets and the federal side is much quieter. It really is a beautiful beach! Also, you do not have to pay to park after 6 pm.

Not too crowded.. Nice clean beach and great surf. Lifeguards were very attentive. This is a county park, so you need to pay or purchase a pass.
