This park has lots to see. i went in the winter, just pulling into the parking area, we found 3 red foxes and about 6 deer. Being a photographer, it was great to see these animals. It wasn't so great that people bring bread/bagels to feed them, not the best thing for these animals to eat. There are no fees... More

My family and I took a trip to Smith Point Beach in Shirley, NY this past weekend (on Fire Island, the barrier island on Long Island's south shore). Shirley, and this beach, are places that I used to spend my summers in back in the 70's. Lot of great memories. While Shirley and Mastic Beach haven't held up all that... More

Had a beautiful morning at this Historic Beach ! Other than the $15 parking charge, beaches were well maintained and plenty of Life-guards were on scene ! Landscaping around Memorial there to honor the people of Flt 800 from July17,2002 ! Amazing beauty !

The beach is fantastic. However, the outer beach is often closed. Camping is great so close to the beach but bathrooms and showers are filthy. No lifeguards at the area of the beach by the campground.

Ok so this is not a tourist place, its a beach for the locals, music on the boardwalk, crab shack, lifeguards and lots of space. Parking is amazing there is so much of it.

Don't waste your time going here. The outer beach is never open when you want it to be. The Outer Beach closures are sporadic, and the staff rarely wants to explain why the beach is closed. Total Bummer, because the beach is convenient for so many people. Don't waste your money on the outer beach pass, I know that I... More

there's a HUGE parking lot and a wonderful beach. at one side is the shimmering blue ocean, at the other, a small cliff. more rocks underfoot than sand, though, so don't take your shoes off. a lot of unique shell, such as sharks' eyes, scallops, and slippers. my daughter went into shell-hunting mode and hunched over the beach for the... We've been here dozens of times.....great beach, huge parking lot, very nice, informative nature display just inside the park at the federal building. The west side of the entrance is part of the Fire Island National Seashore, to the east is the county park. Camping available here with permit.

If you want to camp by the beach, this is the best. We lucked out and got a full hook up spot, right on the beach, at the last minute. The people were wonderful to work with and the internet was delightful surprise. Well worth visiting. The beach was literally steps away, I didn't have to put on shoes and... More
