I wanted to go to the beach to cool off but I'm sick of Coney Island because the beach is dirty and trashy and it draws a large ghetto crowd. After asking around I chose to travel a little bit further to Rockaway Beach. My only mistake was driving there. There's a $4 bridge toll going and coming and once... More

I know if people talk about the New York beach, No. 1 is Coney Island, but in fact I talked before, Coney is very crowed, and good for family rides instead, for beach, it is only a bonus point. Anyway, I like Rockaway beach more, it is bigger, less crowed and cleaner for me. 8601 Shore Front Pkwy Rockaway Park,... More

Nice local beach to take the subway to the beach during the weekday. Surf area, restrooms, snack stand. Fun in the sun and nice break from the city grind.

I visited Rockaway in May and it was still under construction from Sandy and there were no facilities. I visited again 2 weeks ago and it was like a completely different beach! There were food places open, lots of people, the boardwalk was finished and there were lifeguards on the beach. We got off the shuttle at 98th St, the... More

Nice small town with pretty well everything you need. Lovely long sandy beach with good, clean toilet facilities at intervals along the beach.

A short walk from the street to the Ocean. The beach was clean and well maintained, not crowded with soft white sand, not full of broken shells. There are life guards until 5pm, the waves were big enough for the older kids, but not too much for the younger ones, what more could you ask for.

What could be better - wide, clean family beaches with plenty of space to play. Really nicely renovated post-Sandy, boardwalks and changing/restaurant areas interspersed (highly recommend Caracas Arepas on 106th -- delicious!)

We visited Rockaway Beach on a day trip from Manhattan. The last part of the subway ride has the most beautiful views, as the A train wends its way across Jamaica Bay & through the wildlife reserve. We changed onto the S train at Broad Channel & got off at the last stop. The beach was only a few minutes... More

If you are staying in Manhattan and want a day at the beach it is well worth a trip to Rockaway, a lovely sandy beach on which to sunbathe or there is surfing for the more active.

My first time at Rockaway Beach and it was Amazing. New broad walk in which you can cycle, jog, walk and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean.
