Nine miles of scenic trails in the Finger Lakes area that begin at the Nature Center allow you to experience the natural beauty of the Chemung Valley first-hand. We offer hiking year-round and winter activities including snowshoe rentals and GPS rentals. Our 12,000 square foot building features a museum with 43 species of live animals. Our trails are open 365 days/year dawn to dusk. Our museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9-5 (May-October) or 9-4 (November-April). Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

This is an outdoor nature park on top of a hill near Elmira, NY with walking trails and a great indoor educational center. There is an outside trail for the kids and also some difficult hikes for adults. We did the one mile loop and it was just enough for us. There is a big pond with a gazebo where... More

The museum and exhibit hall are home to some really awesome animals including exotic reptiles, mammals, and amphibians. Some of their larger raptors live outside, and the signage for all of their animals is awesome. My personal favorite hiking trail is the Green "Mark Twain" Trail. The staff is also super friendly and extremely helpful.

There are two sides to Tanglewood, and both are very enjoyable. If you want a fun place to take the kids, so they can see reptile exhibits, birds of prey, and taxidermied wild animals (bears, wolves, foxes) in their natural habitat, then this is the place. You & the kids can also explore the ponds and check out the great... More

Free to the public. Very nice place to visit with the family. Several animal exhibits. Haven't hiked all the trails but definitely on our to do list.

We took our dogs for a quick vacation to the Finger Lakes Region of New York State and ended up in Elmira, New York. We decided to take the dogs for a hike at the Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum and we all got some much needed exercise on the many nature trails at Tanglewood. We stopped in to the... More

I visit into Tanglewood at least once per month. I have a three year old son. On Saturdays we visit the Museum at Tanglewood, which is always a good way to spend an hour. Did I mention everything is FREE. Donations are gladly accepted, and I encourage you to drop a few dollars in the donation box. The Museum offers... More

My Google GPS gave me a mis-read for 443 Coleman, but I continued down the road and found the center. It has a small nature center with some live animals and other exhibits. Very nice, pretty trails to walk around the property. You might luck out and have the whole place to yourself.

This is the perfect place to take your child if they have a love of unusual pets and animals that rarely stand still in nature long enough to be viewed and enjoyed by little ones. The outdoor areas with a few small raptors is a interesting time if you get there when they are being fed, but be careful if... More
