Nice boat ride. Went on it as had free tickets from staying at the hotel. Pleasant ride and the kids enjoyed it.

A visit to the Glimmerglass Opera is a wonderful experience, not to be missed. This delightful theater features top-quality productions. Part of the fun is enjoying the wonderful setting on the shores of Lake Otsego with the mountains in the background. It's such a festive atmosphere. You can order a box meal or bring your own picnic. We saw Carousel... More

We have been coming to Glimmerglass for years when they do their annual popular musicals. This year we saw Carousel, and it was a wonderful production. It is so refreshing to hear singers sing without electric amplification Hearing a large orchestra is also a treat. The only problem ,which they had no control of was the cold evening. Who would... Glimmerglass is well run, has a small/friendly feel, and is staging high quality productions. Ample space to picnic before a show (and easy to bring your own food if you don't want to buy onsite). Preconcert lectures are well worth attending - especially if you're unfamiliar with the production.

The Madame Butterfly, Young Artists, performance was magical. It seemed like everyone on stage was really trying to emote and express their best acting and performance skills. A great performance and I have seen Butterfly performed at the finest Houses in the world. Certainly a memorable great performance.

I had been looking forward to going to Glimmerglass for years, and this summer, our granddaughter was singing there (in Carousel) so we finally got organized. We also saw Madame Butterfly. Contrary to the critics, we felt the staging was excellent, simple but dramatic through use of lighting, in both performances. The grounds are lovely. The singing was fine. The... More

Second time at the Glimmerglass Opera-we pre-order a picnic lunch, enjoy the scenery and then enjoy a great performance. The theatre is comfortable (even with no air-conditioning) and do a first class job with the scenery, sets, and costumes. Part of a great weekend getaway to Cooperstown.

Disclosure - we are friends with the current artistic director Francesca Zambello. That being said, we have been coming to Glimmerglass for many years, and have found it greatly improved under her direction. This season saw the adventuous and the classic side by side, with the second production of Thomas Picker's opera AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY, following its debut at the... More
