A good hike

5.4 miles (2.7 each way) was a good hike. The views were cloudy once we reached the top but on a clear day they would have been very impressive.

Hike up 1800 vertical feet from the parking lot to reach the highest peak at 4130 ft. At that point look for a plaque dedicated to John Burroughs. Lots of streams to cross and beautiful flora to see. Very rocky trail, but worth it to see great views.

The walk is moderate, but the top view is poor and boring due to heavy vegetation around, don't expect any revelations. Just average hike :)

This is a most beautiful hike in the Fall. Be warned, though, it is not for the unfit, as it rises some 1,000 feet. The view over the Catskills at the top, though, is spectacular. The trail at the type seemed, wistfully, like an old Indian pathway. Or am I being romantic?

A lot of people seem to have had a good experience here, so I must conclude that either the summit is amazing or these people have numb feet. We didn't make it all the way to the top because aside from the pleasant and pretty bit near the parking lot, the trail was incredibly boring (a straight uphill slog with... More

Nice view from the top, and a choice of a steady easy ascent (red trail), or an alternate trail (yellow to blue) with some overlook spots and some more challenging climbs. Looks that the blue trail has been extended fairly recently. And once you're at the top, if you're hankering for a challenge, go down and up the steep side... More

This walk is only 6 miles up and down but takes about 4 hours as you have to watch your ever step. After rain most of the trail becomes a stream, probably why there are a lot of exposed rocks and very little soil. We were unlucky with the weather in that it was misty at the top but there... More

This maybe the Catskills highest peak, but not the toughest. That being said I absolutely love Slide mt. Trails are well marked with multiple vistas. Great hike for all seasons including snowshoeing. I'm always hearing that Slide is a crowded peak. I've hiked it numerous times and have never ever ran into anyone! I love being on the summit knowing... More

Began our hike in Big Indian and hiked the yellow trail then the blue to the first of the ledges. Rocky footing with some steep and challenging scrambles. About 3 1/2 miles round trip...beautiful in the fall ( we tried this last year but the trail was so icy we had to bail). A good way to earn a dinner... More
