Nicolai Fechin was one of the early painters to come to Taos, and he was one of the most talented and interesting of the bunch. A few of his paintings are on view, along with other notable artists of Taos. More surprising is that Fechin was also a spectacularly good wood carver, and his work is visible throughout the house...

I've watched the evolution of this property at intervals since the 1940s. Take a Russian artist, plunk him down in Taos, see him build a house (and separate studio) in local materials and style but with an eccentric and aesthetically pleasing Slavic flavor. Now a museum, the main floor collection has works by a number of important Taos artists. The...

Nicolas Fenchin left Russia during the revolution and brought his family to New York City. A artist friend invited him to Taos. He moved there in 1926 because of health reasons. The home he built is incredible because of all the custom woodwork he did. Besides this he was an oil painter of renown. His home is now a city...

The former home and studio of this famous Russian artist was a surprise. The architecture is worth the visit but there's so much more to see. One of the best homes in town.
The gift shop at The Taos Art Museum, behind the Fechin Institute, has choice, hand crafted jewelry, fiber art, paitings and wood carvings by well known Taos artisans. The prices are reasonable and the quality supurb. I very much enjoyed browsing and no hard sell. Gave me time to ponder purchasing a few very special accessory items for myself, which...

The film was well done and the house is a must see. The art was wonderful and the wood carving and details were inspiring...put this on your list.
Confession, I didn't know anything about Fechin, but I loved his house. Utter simplicity and complete comfort. You get to wander about it on your own and I was enchanted. Before I left, I also fell in love with his work. Don't miss it!
My favorite Taos museum - not because of the artwork necessarily but because the artist-designed building is such a treat - lots of handcarving and other special treats.
This is a must see in Taos for the special character of the original Fechin home (now a museum). I visited here overs a year ago for the first time and was simply wowed by the building and it's detailing. If I recall correctly, it was built by the artist himself and all of the beautifully carved wood trim and...
