It was a treat to visit the famous Kit Carson's old home and to learn a little more about the famous guide.

There is not a lot to this museum. It was the home of Kit Carson and in those days people did not live in McMansions. Knowing that, you will find an interesting introductory film with many Carson family artifacts and period items. If you like history, it is well worth the price.

We enjoyed stopping at Kit Carson's Home and Museum. I was surprised by the low ceilings. I learned a lot about this amazing American. We even enjoyed the shop at the end of the tour. From the house, we went to the cemetary to see his grave which is a couple of blocks away.

The Kit Carson story should be read up on before visiting this historic house where he ended his life from illness. The house is nicely restored and shows great sensitivity to the family with its choice of photographs and history. Well worth the visit.

We enjoyed learning about Kit Carson's life, family, adventures, and, in general, the mountain men, trappers, scouts, and guides of the American West. Californians will recognize the names Fremont and Meek, among others. Watch the 20-minute History Channel film. The gift shop is charming as well.

This 4 room house in the center of Taos was the home of Kit Carson for about 25 years until his death in 1868. It is interesting to visit to learn more about his legendary life and exploits. There is a 20 minute video from the History Channel about his life before coming to Taos and some pictures, arifacts, and... More

When it had a docent who roled as Kit's wife, waiting for her husband who was just on the trail north of town. I believe that the docent was a descendant of Kit, but was told this time that the family has pulled out of involvement with the museum. Nevertheless, this man had a fascinating life, living from 1809 to... More

This was the first thing my husband wanted to do upon arriving in Taos as he is fascinated by the Old West. The museum is very small -- only 4 small rooms and a shop -- so it does not take long to go through it. Be sure to watch the 30-minute video in the first room -- it is... More
