We enjoyed learning about Kit Carson's life, family, adventures, and, in general, the mountain men, trappers, scouts, and guides of the American West. Californians will recognize the names Fremont and Meek, among others. Watch the 20-minute History Channel film. The gift shop is charming as well.

This 4 room house in the center of Taos was the home of Kit Carson for about 25 years until his death in 1868. It is interesting to visit to learn more about his legendary life and exploits. There is a 20 minute video from the History Channel about his life before coming to Taos and some pictures, arifacts, and... More

When it had a docent who roled as Kit's wife, waiting for her husband who was just on the trail north of town. I believe that the docent was a descendant of Kit, but was told this time that the family has pulled out of involvement with the museum. Nevertheless, this man had a fascinating life, living from 1809 to... More

This was the first thing my husband wanted to do upon arriving in Taos as he is fascinated by the Old West. The museum is very small -- only 4 small rooms and a shop -- so it does not take long to go through it. Be sure to watch the 30-minute video in the first room -- it is... More

We enjoyed the information about Kit Carson and seeing his original home in Taos. This building was purchased by the local Masons and restored. It offers alot of information about this larger than life American hero.

We are not much for museums but thoroughly enjoyed this little gem. A well done 20 minute video starts the visit and then you are free to wander through this small 4 room house that Kit Carson lived in with his wife and seven children. Lots of family pictures and easy reading information cover the walls and we felt we... More

This is a small private museum in the Carson home and only takes about an hour+ to visit. The home is the original adobe of just 4 rooms, plus the courtyard. The visit includes a 20 minute, professionally done video on the early history of Kit Carson. A minimal summary of Kit's history is told in the photos and small... More

I liked the visit of Kit Carson's home. It gave a wonderful hisitory of his jouneys across the plains and marriages to three women, and the media reported heroric pesona, of which he never liked. A nice History channel video starts off the tour and then off you go through his a little adobe. It is worth seeing. It does... More

It was wonderful to find out the history of Kit Carson. We grow up with Cowboys and Indians hearing many story's about the Wild West. The video narration on Kit Carson was good. The information on his family and his life was fascinating. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
