Great art

One of the best "small town" art museums we have encountered. Well known regional artists--we liked this museum better than the Fine arts Museum in Santa Fe.

This free museum and art gallery is right next to the visitor center. Don't skip it! There is a lovely art gallery with a wide range of styles and a museum area with guns, swords, armor, all sorts of military items and an impressive collection of Native American clothing. There is also an exhibit of Goddard's rockets and the tools... More

While much of the history represented is compelling, the haphazard displays and difficult descriptions (laminated notebooks showing hundreds of numbered in the cases makes perusing the materials tedious. Throwing in mixed themed art, some of which was quite good, also seemed a bit random. Still, the best museum in town and in the midst of the historic district.

Our family stopped at this particular museum due to its better ratings on Tripadvisor than the UFO Museum and the fact that it was free. The layout and concept of the museum is great and the displays were very informational and relevant to the area. However, while I stepped away to use their facilities, the staff at this museum apparently... More

I am not an art connoisseur so my favorite parts were the western displays. The labeling of the displays was done so it was easy to locate the description of items shown in the display cases. I have been in many museums and found it impossible to determine what the name or use was of an item of interest

This is a great little art museum in Roswell. Not only does it contain fantastic art, but it has several lovely historical Native American and western artifacts too. Some of the beaded pieces and the Kachinas rival those I've seen in major city art museums. Pieces include art by Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth, along with a space flight exhibit... More

Thoroughly enjoyed the contemporary art displayed in this museum. Additionally there is a fine section of native artifacts, and then the scientific Goddard portion of the museum. A nice variety.

Friends who had family in Roswell and had visited there many times recommended this museum, so we stopped by yesterday when in town and spent over 2 hours looking at the interesting art and exhibits.......the highlights were the Robert Goddard movie about his early rocket exploration and his connection to the Roswell area as well as a replication of his... While in Roswell my husband & I wandered from the Visitor's Center to the Roswell Museum & Art Center next door. What a pleasant surprise! Unfortunely during the 2 1/2 hours we were there saw only a handful of people come in. On a Saturday. It has good regional historical information & artifacts including a great gun collection & Robert... More

This is a great museum with varied types of art on display. The Robert H. Goddard statue, outside, and the replica of his workshop, inside, are wonderful. There is a fantastic display of wild west clothing, art, saddles, Indian artifacts, and early firearms, etc. The Peter Hurd/Henriette Wyath art is always represented.
