The Red River canyon from Questa is frankly not as nice as coming in via the Cimmaron Canyon or taking the Taos to Angel Fire route. It is nice but in the relative terms of this area not essential.

After staying In town for 2 days we were heading out to camp. We don't mind primitive camping. All the campgrounds near there were full. We saw someone camped just off the road by the river. They told us this was allowed. We found a great spot next to the river between Red River And Questa. Very private. And beautiful... More

The drive up the canyon from Questa to Red River, NM, is interesting, in part for the forests and campgrounds along the river, and in part for the giant molybdenum mine along the road. As needed, the mine reopens for business as it did recently. The town of Red River is primarily a winter ski area and a summer hiking... More

First of all red river canyon only has one bridge and it only goes over the red river not over a gorge as seen in other reviews. The gorge that is being mentioned is going toward Arroyo-Hondo and the river 837 feet down is the Rio Grande. As stated by Richard M., a thirty minute drive to questa, not happening.... More

We drove out to view the canyon and it was absolutely stunning and I high recommend taking the trip. The bridge spanning the canyon is there for those who are brave enough.

There were vendors out selling jewelry. We went to Santa Fe the next day and their prices were way higher. We all bought good jewelry and love it. I would go back. The canyon is beautiful, you can walk out on a wide sidewalk for a better view. Gorgeous and worth the drive.

This canyon, created eons ago through volcanic eruption is located about 32 miles from Taos and interestingly, about 35 miles from the massive canyon cut through the valley northwest of Taos by the Rio Grande River. The elevation in Red River varies from approximately 8,600 - 9,000. We are staying at the WorldMark Red River, owned by Wyndham. The condo... More

About a 30 minute ride from RR to Questa. Passing an old mine and chasing a stream almost the entire drive.
