The beautiful shapes and forms of this old church makes in one of the most "arted" places in the country. Ansel adams & others photographed it & Georgia Okeefe painted it. The inside is very nice too. The classic view is from the back which points somewhat north so if you want photos, plan on the late afternoon for one... More

I was working at the Church on business. I was so moved by the history and vibe of this Church. Went to daily Mass twice at 6:45 in the morning. The services were two of the most moving that I have ever attended. Go to this Church and feel your spirit rise. More

A bit south of Taos, you approach this national treasure from it's rear, which is good, because it will be immediately recognizable to many from the countless photographs and paintings made of it my many of our country's greatest artists. The massive forms of it's walls are pure Cezanne and a very powerful site. The front of the Church is... More

San Francisco de asis church is a historic church in ranchos de Taos ( on the outskirts of Taos). Built by the Franciscans in the 1700's a beautiful example of New Mexican Spanish Colonial Architecture. The back side of the church is probably the most famous side, many artists including Georgia O'Keefe have done paintings of the back side. More

I stopped here on Monday, July 26, 2010 on my way back to Santa Fe from Taos. I hadn’t been able to understand so many artists’ preoccupation with this church, especially the back. Until I saw it. Now I get it. Even though you’re surrounded by buildings and are standing in a parking lot perhaps full of cars, the back... More
