Battleship rock is just up stream from the soda dam, lots of places to have picnics, trail that leads up the east fork to Jemez Falls. Tall ponderosa pines, watch out for late summer thunderstorms. try fishing in the stream

The picnic area was packed with family get togethers, however we were able to find a spot to stop. The Jemez River running through was lovely. The rock itself was awesome! In addition to the picnic area there is also a parking area just off the highway that allows for good pictures and a place to hike. We are glad... More

We loved everything about the Jemez Mountains and Scenic Byway, including Battleship Rock. I love NM!

Best view from the parking lot right off the road. Striking rock formation that does indeed look like a battleship!

It's an impressive rock with a chiseled appearing face, tall, and close to the road. It's easy to miss the turn out if you wish to stop for closer inspection. Does it really look like a battleship? You'll have to decide.

Definitely pull off the highway so that you can get a good look, safely! This is a stunning outcrop (likely called something else by the local Jemez Pueblo).

This is a beautiful place to take a walk and have a picnic. There are massive volcanic boulders scattered in the river and the imposing rock formation that gives the place its name - although it didn't look much like a battleship to me!

This is a small picnic area along New Mexico highway 4 (or 502 -- long story) just south of Valles Caldera National Preserve, which see, and east of the town of Jemez Springs. It's a pleasant place to drop in for a picnic lunch while you're on the road, and if you happen to be interested in geology, the connections... More
