Big museum for a smaller area

There is so many things to see in the museum be sure to leave enough time to see it all. We liked the entire museum but it was difficult walking all over the area.

A local newspaper article called this museum "The Smithsonian of the Southwest," and I think we would agree. It's in an unassuming armory building not far from the center of town. It has a huge collection of local and regional artifacts and history. You can spend a couple of hours here without realizing it. Admission is free, although you can... More

What can be said, a first class museum that you may not expect. This museum is rather large for a little town. Great displays of the county, the Mimbres culture, and pioneer life in the old west. You can spend hours here and not see everything. Nice staff of volunteers and well worth the time. If I remember correctly, it... More

You can spend hours in this hidden gem. Such a variety of exhibits - the largest collection of liquor decanters ever, rocks/gems, dolls, a replica of old stores/shops, Mimbres pottery, and so much more! To top it off, it's free!

I have been to quite a few museums in small towns in the western United States. This was one of the best ever. EVERY display was clean, fixed and put together with loving care. Even the ones I didn't particularly care about, were interesting because of the thought, presentations, and labels. And, it goes on and on, thru room after... More

This is a world-class museum in the community of Deming, NM. We had over two hours to spend there, but that was not enough time. It was very well planned and had some items we had never seen before. We especially loved the ancient Membreno pottery displays because we have a set of the modern-day replications.

Most small towns have a "museum" but Deming has a MUSEUM! There are some eclectic collections such as Bud Weiser steins and whiskey bottles, but Deming has the largest display in the world of Mimbres Indian pottery. It will take at least 3 hours to go through this museum so plan accordingly.

What a collection of Deming, USA and World History. Well displayed collections in a clean, large, building that hasn't deteriorated over a period of years. It has only improved! Donations accepted and would recommend as they are definitely putting the money to good use. Don't have two hours, it is worth getting off the Interstate and walk through. You won't... More

This is a fabulous museum with all volunteer staff that seem to love their duties. They are very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. The selection ranges from old photos, furniture, musical items, vehicles, rocks and minerals. It has a main street set up that is really great! Plan to spend at least 2 hours if not more to see... Filled with collections donated mostly by local people, including amateur archaeologists, this old USO facility is chic-a-bloc with rare Mimbres pottery, Navajo blankets, a fully outfitted chuck wagon, nutcrackers, collectable whiskey bottles, taxidermy, WWII memorabilia including a Norden bombsight, old photos, art, china, and Teddy-Bear Roosevelt books. Something for every one. Delightful volunteer staff. Spent two delightful hours there.
