Owner description: The USS Liberty Wreck is the most famous dive site in Bali. It is also one of the best sunken ship wrecks in the world! If you come to Bali, you absolutely have to dive there The liberty ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo then was beached near Tulamben. In 1963, the eruption of Mount Agung caused the vessel to slip off the beach, and it now lies on a sand slope in 9 to 30 m of water. The wreck is about 130 m long with the shallowest part at about 5 m deep and the deepest on the other side of the wreck at about 30 m deep.

Went to dive the wreck & surrounding sites with my partner we are both instructors so we hired tanks at Matahari Resort & did our own thing. The best way to dive here is to stay at Tulamben itself, by doing this you can dive when you choose to & typically avoid the circus that goes on during the day.... More

As I was a first timer, my instructor was initially struggling me training. But after a while I became comfortable underwater (which is very important...... even if you are a great swimmer, you may not be comfortable underwater.....remember, swimming skill is NOT very important for divers......I personally am not a good swimmer at all but I had a fantastic diving... Very much enjoyed snorkeling this shipwreck! As others have said, the visibility for snorkelers is limited, it's still worth a view. With the huge variety of fish in clear waters with the shipwreck below complete with scuba divers' bubbles coming up I had the surreal feeling that I was in a gigantic, beautiful aquarium. I guess only the upper third... More

The wreck of the Liberty is a must do dive in Bali. Accessible from the beach (a little bit hairy getting in sometimes), and resonably shallow.

This is an easy snorkel to do from shore and is a really great site to see. Though visibility isn't the best the wreck itself is magnificent and it is fantastic to see the humphead parrot fish out at dawn in their numbers. Highly recommended.

Night dives were great .. there is a massive eel (about 7-8 feet long) which hunts in tandem with a cod. Together they are formidable :)

Easy access, brilliant vis, loads to see. We did 6 dives (1 in Coral Garden) and saw something new and unusual on every dive from a group of 4 bump head parrot fish on the first to the pair of ornate ghost pipe fish on the last. Plenty to keep you busy for a couple of days but maybe not... More

It's definitely worth the trip to Tulamben! Get an experienced guide and he'll take you inside and through the wreck! It's spectacular!
