Description: Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen...
Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate. With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world. Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen. We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

Although known as an award winning vineyard the Vergelegen estate is more than worth a visit. Containing one of the oldest and detailed installations about the central role of slavery to the foundation of this historic site the up-to-date interpretation is refreshing - especially for a private site. The views are incredible and more than worth the minimal charge for... More

Vergelegen is renowned for its exceptionally good wines, which consistently win awards overseas, its beautifully maintained gardens and historical buildings, not to mention its two restaurants, This estate offers something for everyone, whether it be a romantic dinner at the superb fine dining restaurant, Camphors, a relaxed lunch at Stables, their family orientated restaurant with breathing views of the Hottentot... We recently visited Vergelegen Estate on May 11th. We had a wonderful visit. The entire grounds and gardens are gorgeous. Spectacular views and rich history. We learned about the historic camphor trees onsite. We enjoyed our included wine tasting after strolling around the gardens and grounds for about an hour. The Estate has excellent wine. We highly recommend a tasting.

Spectacular property with wonderful wine-tasting experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, especially the beautiful gardens and historical Cape Dutch architecture. This is a true gem.

Tasting was very good so we were eager to lunch there and enjoy some more of their wines. Lunch area is in a well decorated building with a nice terrace and beautiful yard with big trees and some squirrels. They had Rain handwash and lotion in the restroom which was agreeable.

Such a magnificent and sophisticated wine estate. From the picturesque views, heritage sites and memorable picnic in a magnificent forest, to the superb service thanks to knowlegable tour guide, Arnoux, and the stunning wines! Definitely a touch of silk on the palette. To top it all off, they played well with the boyfriend's plan of an unforgettable proposal. A place... More

We spent a Sunday afternoon here strolling around the grounds and into the buildings. This is one of the most beautiful estates in the Stellenbosch area, and one does have to pay an entrance fee. Docents are available in the buildings to tell of the history, people, and wine-making of the estate. A good map provides hours of walking along... More
