Description: Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen...
Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate. With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world. Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen. We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

Such a magnificent and sophisticated wine estate. From the picturesque views, heritage sites and memorable picnic in a magnificent forest, to the superb service thanks to knowlegable tour guide, Arnoux, and the stunning wines! Definitely a touch of silk on the palette. To top it all off, they played well with the boyfriend's plan of an unforgettable proposal. A place... More

We spent a Sunday afternoon here strolling around the grounds and into the buildings. This is one of the most beautiful estates in the Stellenbosch area, and one does have to pay an entrance fee. Docents are available in the buildings to tell of the history, people, and wine-making of the estate. A good map provides hours of walking along... More

We visited the estate for a tour and coffee and were blown away by the absolute beauty of the gardens. Take the time to walk around the estate and live some of the history. It's beautiful place for photography, scenery, and day-dreaming. My daughter immensely enjoyed the playground right next to the entrance.

stunning location though not easy to find! Picnic is in the woods are you are looked after well. Great adult picnic but children's small and disappointing. Would recommend ordering adults for anyone 8 or over. Grounds are stunning as is the house. Can play or Laze on the lawn. Superb way to spend a long afternoon. Strongly recommend it but... More

We visited the estate for tasting and lunch. Before either, we took an opportunity to stroll around the extensive grounds. This place is absolutely stunning. The gronds require a small entrance fee, but that gives you access to walk and picnic if you want. The grounds are immaculate and have a long history. After our walk, we tasted a number... More

Wonderful venue, huge gardens and beautifully kept. Felt a bit formal for small children, but they have a lovely childrens area with water features, swings etc which more than made up for that. The wine tasting is highly recommended, I expected the wines to be overpriced based on the reputation of the wine farm but they really deliver even at... More

We went for a picnic in the woods. It was amazing. The linen tablecloths, real cutlery and glassware. Tables and chairs. Superb menu. I could not think of a single thing that could be improved. the children were well looked after with special bags of food for themselves. Who ever puts this picnic together really knows what people want. Walking... More

So I went to this place with my friends who love a day at the winery. This is by far the most beautiful winery / garden / castle looking place. It was just WOW! The wine tasting took place in the garden which is really the best place. The sommelier seemed knowledgeable and my friends really the wine and presentation... More
