Description: Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen...
Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate. With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world. Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen. We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

So I went to this place with my friends who love a day at the winery. This is by far the most beautiful winery / garden / castle looking place. It was just WOW! The wine tasting took place in the garden which is really the best place. The sommelier seemed knowledgeable and my friends really the wine and presentation... More

Spent an afternoon strolling through the house and grounds. The gardens and walking routes are beautiful. Would definitely go back and do the picnic under the camphor trees. Loved it!!

A long slow peaceful walk through these beautiful grounds. The old Oak trees a majestic. The original Manor House built for Simon Van Der Stel is beautifully preserved and the ladies on duty have a vast and in depth knowledge relating to the History of the house and grounds, thoroughly enjoyed this, was followed by lunch at Camphors..

The estate now boasts a wine tasting centre, new car park, but what happened to the lovely café at the rose garden? The gardens and original homestead are a delight to visit. Only one restaurant was open on Monday - The Stables. Service was rather up & down, but luckily Jacques took care of us and we were eventually served... More

This place is fantastic. The restaurant is great and the staff were very friendly. The views are also amazing and the wine estate was great to walk around. This place was also very child friendly. The wine shop is excellent also and you are able to purchase wine along with travel wine crates to take home.

The gardens and the buildings in this estate are fantastic. Entry is also only r10 per person which is totally worth it. Everything is well kept and we had a lovely afternoon meandering around. Do the yellowood walk. You probably need to book if you want to go to the restaurant, which I would recommend because the meal we had... More

Recommended. This award winning place is worth a visit. Bask in beautiful gardens set in a gorgeous valley surrounded by mountains in this fabulous wine country area of the Western Cape. See 300-year old Camphor trees. Experience high end western Cape Dutch manor construction from the 17th century. And snag a snack at the restaurant. Worth a visit!

Vergelegen has to be the ONLY wine estate that charges an entrance fee (!) but that said, the grounds and landscaping are worth it. The views from most wine estates are lovely, Vergelegen even more so. It does a city soul good, to see the rolling green lawns broken by trickling streams, the magnificent 300 year old camphor trees, the... More
