Description: Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen...
Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate. Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate. With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world. Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen. We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

This is a great place to visit if you feel like relaxing. You can wander around their expansive grounds and explore the many walking trails. They have an amazing set of ancient Camphor trees, along with a path along the Lourensrivier river which runs through the edge of the grounds. If you're looking for a meal you have two options,... This wine farm is a national treasure and a must see. Splendid original farm house from over 300 years ago will take you back to the times of the Colonial Cape. Centuries-old Camphor trees still stand in full glory and is a photographer's dream. Also visit the Margaret Roberts herb garden. And...the wine is splendid too x

We came her twice. So much to see and so much for the kids to enjoy. The best milkshakes in South Africa. Beautiful grounds and lovely photo opportunities.

Vergelegen Estate is a winery in the Cape Town wine region of South Africa that produces exceptional wines. There is a wonderful wine tasting room, and a really excellent restaurant on the beautiful site. What makes it particularly worth visiting, however, is the historic estate on which the winery is located. The estate dates from the 17th century, with the... More

Was at this amazing estate over the weekend. I do not have enough good things to say about it! My boyfriend and I dined at Stables restaurant for a yummy lunch and then had a wonderful time walking the gardens and getting to meet all those incredible trees, some said to be planted in the 1700s. The library was probably... More

Took a couple of friends on a wine tasting tour, Vergelegen was our last stop. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to cater for our requests. This venue has stunning views and a lovely restaurant if you want to stop for a meal. They have a great variety of wines to choose from for... More

Interesting history from 1700. 300 year old camphor, oak, and cypress trees. Certified camellia gardens. Original home of Willem Adriaan van der Stel, who even planted mulberry trees with the idea to start a silk industry in South Africa. Wonderful wines. Only rates 4 as their Stables restaurant is poor and badly staffed.

Although known as an award winning vineyard the Vergelegen estate is more than worth a visit. Containing one of the oldest and detailed installations about the central role of slavery to the foundation of this historic site the up-to-date interpretation is refreshing - especially for a private site. The views are incredible and more than worth the minimal charge for... More
