We stumbled upon La Motte by accident on our way out of the Motor Museum in Franschhoek and were so happy we did. Completely surprised by the farm and how beautiful the buildings and gardens were, we also had one of the best wine tastings ever. The staff were not overly pushy, they sat us down explained the wine and... More

Our visit, on the spur of the moment, was well rewarded with warm welcome and a fantastic wine tasting. As a wine lover, the wine tasting area is well set out and the wine did not disappoint either. The wine tasting assistant was knowledgeable about his fare and could answer most of my questions. The restaurant " Pierneefs" is wonderfully... More

When we pulled into the entrance, we were taken aback by the beauty of this estate. The property is stunning and that is about as good as the experience gets. We had lunch reservations at Pierneef a La Motte and were looking forward to eating there. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best and our server was inattentive which also... More

We visited this place twice during our stay in Franschhoek; early afternoon wine tasting and an evening Piano concert later on in the old wine cellar. Both were highly memorable experiences. There’s even a 2-3hrs hike on the grounds which we unfortunately never got to try so do leave plenty of time when visiting this place – a classy mixture... More

My review deals only with the small art gallery on the estate as I went for that and did not do a wine tasting. The gallery starts of with some modern SA painting, of which only one, a landscape, impressed me. The main room contains a wide-ranging collection of the paintings and prints of the 20C South African artist J.H.... More

We stopped here briefly on our way to Franshoek. Beautiful setting but quite geared to the tourists. The wine tasting is expensive at 40 rand per person, but you do not pay if you buy wine. I would suggest you share a tasting since there is plenty of wine for 2 people.

La motte is one of the oldest wineries in the region and clearly one of the big guns in SA for wines . The wine tasting is very well priced and if you purchase a bottle your tasting is free, which is nice. Sadly despite the beautiful setting of the estate. The tastings are done in doors. Also due to... More

we arrived rather early, around 10:30, we wondered through the beautiful restaurant and curio shop, the exquisite art gallery, killing time to get to taste the wine! around 11 we went into this grand cellar, barrels of wine ageing in from of you! it made the wine taste that much better, i'm sure of it. amazing tasting experience.

Best tasting wine of the day. Magnificent grounds the estate boasts, very picturesque would highly recommend picking up a bottle or two.

Delicious wines, very informative private harvest tour. Knowledgable staff and a beautiful setting. Also a lovely museum and art gallery.
