Set on the side of the valley not far from the charming town of Franschhoek, is the Haute Chabriere winery, family owned and run , it is an intimate experience, the family are present so the connection with visitors is warm , professional and very knowledgeable. The setting allows you to taste wines outside while enjoying the amazing valley view.... More

We had enjoyed a lunch and excellent wines here 10 years ago and so I expected the wines on tasting to be equally good. The one that I chose to buy from the tasting was the most expensive and I was surprised when the fairly modest cost of the tasting was not deducted from the wine price as is often... More

Dear sonoscozzese, Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent experience at Haute Cabriere. Without knowing which wine failed to impress and the specific aspects you felt have changed, it is difficult for me to comment. Wine appreciation is a highly personal and objective matter, so all I can do at this point is to say that I... More

There is no atmosphere at this place and the wines are just average, except the MCC which was lovely. Staff are not engaging and I would say stick to the small low production wineries instead for a more personal experience.

the first time we visited we were too late for the tasting so enjoyed a bottle of the Pierre Jourdan belle rose (bubbles) on the terrace with some tapas dishes; all excellent and served professionally overlooking the franschoek valley on a sunny afternoon (doesn't get much better) so we went back 2 days later to enjoy the wine cellar tour... Hi Hilary, Thank you for visiting and for posting this review. Our Cellar Tours are very popular especially the Cellar Master Tour on every Saturday. One point to note, taking the cork off a bottle (called sabrage) should be taken very cautiously as there are certain elements to have it work correctly. Not least is that is should be done... More

Stunning view. It will take your breathe away! Food was superb and at first the service was painfully slow, they were exetremely busy, but soon the service picked up to excellence. This place is beyond a treat and I loved the afternoon we spent wine tasting and eating here.

We entered the dimly lit tasting room in the early afternoon, and found it to be a classy yet cosy establishment. Our guide was friendly and very helpful and we settled in for a good tasting for only R50. As usual the Pinot Noir remains good and we ordered some of the Reserve to take home. Our patronage was thanked... More

We just ate dinner. The Tuna Carpaccio was served on a piece of black glass, it had no taste and the glass platter was full of old finger prints. The main course Sirlon steak came well done instead of medium rare after waiting 40 minutes for it. It 2as replaced with a medium rare portion but it was not tasty... More

there are many great winery's in this wine region but this is the only one we attended at which payment was taken before the tasting and the presentation by the vintner was made with total disinterest. The wines were good, the setting superb, the presentation mediocre at best.

Dear RB107 I apologise sincerely for the mediocre presentation you witnessed on Saturday. Without wanting to make excuses – as I fully agree with you that our guests always deserve the host’s full attention – I would just like explain that we are in the middle of our grape harvest at the moment. This is a very stressful and tiring... More

Nice vineyard with a lot of history and professionalism – AND a willingness to share. The cellars and production facilities are open for visiting and after you can taste their wines in the shade with a view over the fields

The wine-tasting was excellent. They do what many of the local estates are doing with buying a list of wines to taste. The hostess was informative and the wines, of course, were wonderful (it is Haute Cabriere, after all!) The pinto noir/chardonnay "champagne" is awesome. The negative was that the wines to buy were no cheaper and in one or... More
