Agriculture and a simple farm lifestyle is at the heart of Boschendal. One of the oldest farms in South Africa, founded 1685, the farm has grown with the passing centuries into a cherished source of wholesome produce, great wines and happy memories. Set in the Drakenstein Valley surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, lush gardens and vines, the original farmstead complex is now a national monument with a rich and intriguing history of more than 300 years. Today, Boschendal is a Cape winelands icon and a cherished wine and food destination. Our vineyards and fruit trees have been joined by vegetable gardens and a growing herd of free range, 100% pasture fed Angus cattle reflecting our commitment to serving wholesome farm-to-table food. Guest accommodation is also a recent addition to the farm with luxurious cottage accommodation ranging from the exclusive and historic Rhodes Cottage built by Sir Herbert Baker to the elegantly restored Werf Cottages. Cottage guests enjoy access to the entire farm where they can walk and cycle on trails through mountain fynbos, dine under the stars, have picnics and sundowners in exclusive areas, fly-fish in the dams and swim in pristine mountain water.

I love being able to sit outside for a tasting and this truly a treat. We sat under Oak trees with squirrels running around. The tasting room staff were helpful and informative and the wines were lovely.

There are 171 wineries to visit in the Stellenbosch region who are members of the Stellenbosch Wine Route. This one does its own thing and is quite superb and well worth finding - on the road to Franschhoek. Glorious settings. Wonderful gardens. Delicious food - served outside surrounded by chickens and ducks. Gift shop with unusual presents. Quiet, restful, away... More

The cafe here is very nice with very friendly and efficient staff. The wine as you would expect is excellent with the food to match. We had the smoked chicken salad and Angle fish salad. They were stunningly good. This was somewhat spoiled by the indifferent attitude at the wine shop, We went for a tasting to see what wines... More

Beautiful grounds and old manor house. Nice casual cafe on site as well as more formal restaurant. Wine tasting.

A return visit this year and although the surroundings and setting were brilliant we were a little disappointed by the picnic hamper. Salads and other items served in jars and somehow not as appetising as a previous visit though the bread and wine were delicious, cheese good and general ambience excellent except for another party's children who thought it was... We only visited the house but found it an interesting stopover for a brief tour and coffee. The grounds serve .picnics. These are enough for a full blown lunch. You are spoilt for choice of wineries in this area, but Boshendal is one of the best.

Spent a beautiful sunny day here, the setting is amazing, beautiful gardens, lovely tables and huge bean bags. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The picnic basket was amazing, lots of tasty food, the wine well chilled. Nice ambiance, tables were well spaced out so plenty privacy to enjoy a special lunch then relax on the wonderful bean bags.... More

This was our first winery visit and there were about three coaches of tourists spilling out for a mass tasting. In fairness to the staff they did manage to spot that we were one and looked after us. However, in terms of wine quality this was probably the weakest of the wineries we picked to visit - but then we... More
