We used this route to go to Hermanus and visit the Aarde Valley really superb Pinot Noir wine estates. As the road rises when you leave Franschhoek you really see the wonderful view and perspective af the whole area. The road is good and almost empty, the scenery and mountains of the pass are magnificent. Go if you can!

Although my wife hates tight winding roads, it was worth the trip for the views from the top!! We had to negotiate our way round hairpin bends and a baboon troup, but I'd do it all again for those views!

It doesn't take long to drive up to the pass, but the view is incredible. If you have your own car, do it!

R45 from Villiersdorp to Franschoek provides jaw dropping scenery and a viewpoint overlooking the fertile Franschoek valley and the surrounding wine estates. Take your time and enjoy the solitude and silence of the route and the mountain pass.

Just 10 minutes from Franschoek (go to the memorial and turn left) this pass rises to a great height and offers stunning views of the town and surrounding area and is a great route out to the inland towns or just a drive and back. Fabulous photo moments and a lovely drive.

We only drove about 1 mile up the pass, but the views are awesome. And watch out for the baboons!! We also passed La Petite Fermee and popped in for coffee. It looks like a fabulous place for lunch but apparently you have to book well in advance.

Great road - easy to drive on but great fun! The road is twisty and high but wide and well surfaced. Well worth the trip!

"One valley's ceiling is another Pass's floor!" On a Sunday morning in February we came over Franschhoek Pass with about 100m visibility at the top. Two hairpins down the Franschhoek side the table cloth effect broke open into perfect visibility stretching out before us. Speckled sunlight on the valley floor added a special touch to the patches of vines, fruit,... More
