A local suggested we take this drive and we didn't regret it. It was like seeing the Great Plains...in the moutains! And coming into Franschoek a little jewel of a town was a very pleasant finish to the wonderful drive.

This is for whom likes narrow roads, full of curves and beautiful landscapes. It provides the view of very nice mountains and also a perspective from above related to Franschhoek city.

Everyone has already said everything that needs to be said about the Pass, but let me reiterate that it is a very beautiful drive. It's not as scary as some have said - the roads are safe and broad with many pullover spots to take in the scenic beauty. We drove the pass right before sunset and it was gorgeous.... More

As good as any summer view in the Alps, drive to the pull-out on the pass above Franschoek (only 10 minutes or so out of town) on a sunny day. It's easiest to park coming down the hill, but then you wouldn't have missed it anyway. It shows just what a wonderful setting the town has.

Worth the trouble to drive up past Le Petite Ferme.Avoid running over the baboons get above the tree line and a magnificent view is gained of the whole of the Franschoek valley.Good parking at the top.

Franschhoek is such a beautiful town and to appreciate it fully, it is well worth driving ten minutes or so out along the pass. Pull in to baboon watch along the way. We also bought passes to enter the park (pull in off the main road) and walked one of the scenic trails which gave us wonderful panoramic views. We... More

This pass was first used by elephants with the change of seasons. The first constructed road was completed in 1825. The view of Franschhoek from the pass is spectacular. Even if you do not enter Franschhoek from the direction of the pass (on the R45 via Stellenbosch or Paarl), it is a few minutes drive from central Franschhoek for a... More

All in all this area seeps in quality and perfect beauty. Every turn gives the eye a next intrigue and want for more of it as one meanders through the Pass and entry stroke exit valleys. No where better on this continent......full stop.

Another road trip..... On our way to Mountain Shadows Country Manor, we ended up in Franschhoek at the crack of dawn. We headed for the Franschhoek Pass and enjoyed taking in the gorgeous views of the surrounds. Another attractions; Franschhoek Monument The Saturday Market Wine Estates to pop in for a light meal and wine tasting. Enjoy
