This is by far my best nature reserve experience in terms of accommodation in South Africa. Really feels like up to international standards and exquisitely designed and decorated to incorporate elements of nature and minimise the impact on the environment. We stayed at chalet 5, Everlasting Daisy which is at the end and quite quiet but all are beautiful. The... More

The 5 chalets in Kogelberg are completely secluded with stunning mountain views, although the nearest town, Kleinmond, is only a few kilometers away. Several hiking routes ranging from a few hours to a full day. The Palmiet trail winds next to the river and has several swimming spots, while the climb up to Leopard Gorge takes you through natural forest... More

Had a nice time here. The reserve has some clearly marked hikes, ranging from 2 hours to 8 hours. I walked the full 8 hours = 24 km. Was good but not great; glad I walked it in reverse cos that climb out of the camp up the Leopard Gorge at the start must be Hell! I would have preferred... More

The MTB trail starting at Oudebosch is fantastic. It's a jeep track but storms in 2013 washed bridges away that cannot be rebuilt, so the tracks are fairly rugged with having no vehicles over them for so long. Lots of loose gravel, rocks and sand make for challenging terrain. The scenery and views are stunning, and you can be rewarded... More

Well, I did. Set off on an early morning hike along the Palmiet trail in cool (and deteriorating) weather. Was worth it, though, as the scenery in the descending cloud and drizzle reminded me of Bilbo's journey to the Lonely Mountain. Too cold for a swim in the river, but I imagine on fine summer days the reserve gets extremely... More

Beautiful fynbos, lovely trails. We did a 3 hour hike ending at the Harry Porter gardens where we had a lovely breakfast. We were there in Dec 2013 but this review page doesn't allow me to select any date earlier than 2014.

Kogelberg is an amazing place. Pros: unique accommodation, spectacular scenery, lovely (really lovely!) walks around the reserve, an exceptional feeling of luxury amidst the fynbos, lovely (cold) eco-pool! Cons: for all its eco-logic, the composting non-flush toilets are a problem after several days, and are most likely the source of the flies, and the cottages are rather close together and... More

We saw a video of the reserve on their website which absolutely sold it to us! It is a truly stunning world heritage site, but on arrival we were shocked when informed that the units have compost toilets! Once we saw our unit (Erica) we were amazed that it seemed even more beautiful than we'd anticipated and the view was... More

The Kogelberg reserve is a bit of a conundrum....there is no doubt the reserve is fantastically beautiful and the hikes through the fynbos is heaven but I don't know what to make of the cabins. It is priced and sold as luxury cabins but it has long drops (no flushing toilets) and a HUGE fly problem. I am no snooty... More

I found the park absolutely stunning. The walk scenery changed quote dramatically as we progressed on the walk so we got some amazing photos. But also the parks staff in particular Jo-mene so incredibly helpful and kind. We were just blown away. Definitely worth doing !!!
