There are various walks you can do. You need to pick up a permit (very cheap) at the information office who will also give you a map and an information and safety leaflet (which includes instructions on what do if you get bitten by a snake - we didnt see any!). We ended doing a 2.5hour walk - some of... More

We spent 4 nights in Franschhoek and needed to work off some of that great food and wine so a hike up Mont Rochelle was perfect! Before you go you must buy a permit at the tourist office in town. It was 50 rand for the two of us and a map. We did the Breakfast Rock trail to the... More

This place is breathtaking in all ways, the trails provide superb views but some are quite tough! You should obtain a trail map to ensure you don't get lost and take lot's of water. We enjoyed the Vista and Uitkyk trails. The flowers in November were amazing but we didn't see much animal life. Apparently the puff adders they warn... More

We spent half a day hiking on the Vista View Point and Breakfast Rock hike. It was not a difficult trail in comparison to the Table Mountain hike we did the weak before but the flora and fauna was incredible. Unfortunately our hike was wet, windy and a bit cold, but we enjoyed every minute of it none the less.... More

The Mont Rochelle nature reserve is a beautiful place to hike and look at Franschhoek from another angle. Especially when you hike in the Spring, there are many flowers and shrubs to enjoy. Also the birds are numerous. Definitely worth the visit and a good alternative to lose calories after a wonderful lunch or dinner the day before.

I was eager to walk off the fine food ( and extra weight) so arranged for a permit to hike here. Permits are required. It is lovely place, and the view from the Vista Trail is well worth seeing. The hike up and back only takes about an hour but leave time to appreciate it all.

If you are looking for something different to do on a pleasant day in Franschhoek a hike in Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve is recommended. For two people with the handy map and info guide cost R50. Permits can be bought at the Information Office in the centre of Franschhoek. Routes not always clearly marked but are pretty easy to figure... More

Both half and full day hikes. Beautiful vistas 180 degrees; indigenous plants well maintained by removal of alien Australian wattles and eucalyptus and American pines. A permit must be purchased from the Tourism bureau for R20pp. Adequate parking and a well drawn up glossy brochure/map in colour is available.

We went to Mont Rochelle for some hiking, however due to the heat (again) and some sudden interruptions on the way, we didnt walk far. The mountain is not very tall, and the hiking path is of good quality. Already when parking you get a panoramic view of the valley of Franschhoek and if lucky (as we were) you bump... More
