We did the 3-hour walk. One should start early in the morning when going in summer as Franschhoek gets quite hot. Take enough water. Good place for picnic as well, after 1.5 hours walking you have the most amazing view of 2 dams. Hard to guess, but you can probably see 30 miles far on a clear day. Not to... More

This is a lovely reserve for flora. We didn't see many creatures except lots of flies and insects! (One bird and a couple of frogs.) There are no facilities here so you need to go prepared with water and food. There is a stream which it is safe to drink from, and on the trail we did this was great... More

Unfortunately I have already submitted a review of the Franschoek Pass that would have been better placed here. We had a good experience with hikes and seeing nice flowers, but a very poor experience with getting ANY information in the museum where an absolutely disinterested lady is selling the permits.

There are various walks you can do. You need to pick up a permit (very cheap) at the information office who will also give you a map and an information and safety leaflet (which includes instructions on what do if you get bitten by a snake - we didnt see any!). We ended doing a 2.5hour walk - some of... More

We spent 4 nights in Franschhoek and needed to work off some of that great food and wine so a hike up Mont Rochelle was perfect! Before you go you must buy a permit at the tourist office in town. It was 50 rand for the two of us and a map. We did the Breakfast Rock trail to the... More

This place is breathtaking in all ways, the trails provide superb views but some are quite tough! You should obtain a trail map to ensure you don't get lost and take lot's of water. We enjoyed the Vista and Uitkyk trails. The flowers in November were amazing but we didn't see much animal life. Apparently the puff adders they warn... More

We spent half a day hiking on the Vista View Point and Breakfast Rock hike. It was not a difficult trail in comparison to the Table Mountain hike we did the weak before but the flora and fauna was incredible. Unfortunately our hike was wet, windy and a bit cold, but we enjoyed every minute of it none the less.... More

The Mont Rochelle nature reserve is a beautiful place to hike and look at Franschhoek from another angle. Especially when you hike in the Spring, there are many flowers and shrubs to enjoy. Also the birds are numerous. Definitely worth the visit and a good alternative to lose calories after a wonderful lunch or dinner the day before.
