We went for an easy walk as it was very hot . The guide at the entrance was super helpful in telling us where we should go. The views over Franschhoek and surrounding area are out of this world. Wear walking shoes and bring enough water.

Once we found the right access road to the car park the reserve was well worth the vist. We did the Wineland short walk (3kms) due to the hot weather and there were welcome cool breezes. Very helpful man at the office and the path very easy to follow. Would go again in cooler weather

Each year a network of hikers attempt to view the snow from this reserve. The car park provides safe parking and the hike to the view point is accessible. Pack an anorak, water, a hat and sunscreen as well as some snacks. And afterwards the country town of Franschhoek beckons with its plethora of restaurants and bistros. Ideal for those... More

We took the Uitkyk Trail, which was about 5.5 miles / 9 km. We took 4.5 hours to do it, but that includes frequent stops to enjoy the scenery and about 45 minutes at the top to eat lunch. The trail will be easy enough for anyone with moderate fitness, and sturdy running shoes were adequate -- no hiking boots... More

A must if you're interested in nature. This time of year, December, is still good for photographing the indigenous plants. I spotted some beautiful orchids. Truly beautiful!

The walk starts of with a short climb to Breakfast Rock. From here on it levels of and leads gently upwards with numerous flowers and beautiful honeybirds in the foreground and a beautiful crag-flanked valley leading up to the lookout. It took us four hours without hurrying and was an absolute highlight of the holiday.

Excellent hiking on well maintained trails. Friendly and helpful staff at hut where you purchase entry permit. Expansive views from Du Toits peak. Take water with you. Excellent.

A walk above the valley was a great antidote to all the wine tasting and fine dining. It was great to stand high above all the other cars stopping for a view of the valley. We bought the map in the information office in the town and took the Breakfast Rock Trail.

We recently did the shortest route called Winelands. has beautiful views but more climbing than hiking. There was very little walking involved, mainly climbing up and down. Some of our group wore running shoes which are adequate as this a short hike, but hiking boots are more suitable and recommended.

We spent the morning hiking Utikyk and it was lovely! My seven year old did it with no complaints so I'd say it's a very family friendly hike. The views are wonderful, especially all the pretty flowers in bloom. A nice, peaceful way to start your day!
