Second time in Franschhoek and finally we walked the du toittrail in Mont Rochelle nature reserve. A beautiful and well maintained path. Easily to find your way. During the climb the view change all the time. You don't have eyes enough and you have to take your time. When we walked the trail , it was very hot. So keep... More

The reserve is easy to find and very accessible. It is advisable to collect your permit in the town at the tourist office as the ranger on site was on patrol and not there when we arrived. There are a good selection of hikes for 30 min up to 8 hours. It is also possible to mix and match a... More

Easy to find the entrance but trails could have been marked more clearly. The paths are pretty stoney and hight of steps vary - you need to have good walking boots on this route.

Fantastic position at the head of the valley - a good range of walks to get up an appetite for lunch

Hikes of varying length to suit all walkers in stunning surroundings! It's very close to town too so you can get there very quickly.

We arranged for a guide at the Tourist Information desk in Franschhoek to show us around although this is not necessary as the paths are well marked. The views are quite staggering even on the short walk that we attempted. Our guide Professor Rust was wonderful. He had an excellent sense of humour mad a fount of knowledge concerning the... More

If you would like a great walk that is not too taxing, you cannot go wrong with driving up to the top of the Franschhoek Pass and turning left into the parking area of the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. The walks are of varied length but all offer great views. Buy a permit and get a map in town before... More

We loved this place for spectacular walking in the Fynbos. Great views over the Franschhoek valley and the surrounding countryside. And if you like walking, the trail at La Motte vineyard is also worth going to.

We drove up Franshoek Pass intending to hike the trails. The road off the pass to Mont Rochelle's main gate was quite steep, narrow and unpaved. Did not feel at all comfortable taking our mid sized rental car up that road. Our fault for not doing enough research. Or maybe there is another road in? The pass was beautiful though!

Myself & my wife climbed to uitkyk yday. Weather conditions were perfect & views stunning. We are novice hikers, it took 2hours 40mins, including a short lunch at the top. Contine on the track until it ends, to be rewRded with views on the other side. The Gentle breeze helped keep us cool & the wind at the very top... More
