I did not stay at the lodge, but went for the elephant ride only. It was bareback as opposed to the platform and chairs on the Thailand ride. Interesting facts about elephants. After a half hour + ride, we took pictures next to elephants, then followed them thru the bush to their feeding station. We feed the elephants, thru the... More

We flew in a small 5-seater plane from Kirkwood by Addo Elephant Back Safari's pilot, Rod. The short flight was beautiful, flying over lemon and orange groves and mountains towards The safari property. Rod warned us that the takeoffs and landings might be a little bumpy, but ours were just fine. Landing at the private airstrip, we were greeted by... More

Had a wonderful time: personalized service from Colin, who met us on the road and escorted us to the lodge, and thereafter catered to any and every need possible. Also to be mentioned is Prince, who is the Elephant care giver... Extremely knowledgeable, and compassionate with his three charges. The food was all freshly prepared, and delightful. An experience with... More

Firstly I have to admit that I was in two minds about participating in such an activity for ethical reasons. I have lived overseas for 14 yrs and have since discovered that elephant riding has become a fairly common attraction in SA since I left. I read some reviews and most comments were favourable, and any unfavourable comments made no... More

this trip made my dreams come true! within two hours of my arrival (and after a fabulous lunch) I was riding an elephant- bareback no less! the accommodations are first class, extremely comfortable and luxurious with my own private viewing deck and whirlpool hot tub. the meals were excellent; I truly enjoyed the south African cuisine. No crumbs left on... More

From our collection at the local airport through to the actual time spent with the elephants - everything was professionally managed and went like clockwork! We never felt rushed and enjoyed every minute. The elephant handlers were very knowledgeable and very obliging with photographs. Highly recommend everyone to try this at least once in their lives.

Myself and my wife headed up to the Back Safaris for our honeymoon for the first week of June this year. To say our stay was awesome is an understatement. The level of service is world class, in all categories. From arriving and checking in to the elephants herders to chefs which prepared the most delicious meals to the daily... More

I was first a bit sceptical about riding African elephants but wow, the handlers were brilliant and the whole experience just so good. Perched astride a huge male elephant allows an incredible view of what happens just above an indigenous tree canopy. Besides the game and birds I managed to identify 91 species of indigenous trees, the most I have... More

What a wonderful experience....A nice flight in on the small plane. We found this experience amazing, and extremely interesting. We had quests from Scotland with us, who had never experienced the African Bush so this experience was something to behold. Feeding of the elephants was also lovely. We had a nice light lunch at the end of our tour and... More

I work at Old Mutual and won a night away to the Lodge in a small plane which was awsome. On arrival at the airfield we were greeted by our Pilot Rod, after our 10 minute flight we were met by Collin our driver driven to the lodge where we were greeted by the friendly staff, Sam, Walter, and Liam....
