I had heard that the last few summers had been pretty rough on area golf courses, and I was hesitant to come back after hearing some rumors about area courses. But what a pleasant surprise when my wife and I played Sand Barrens recently. The golf staff was as professional as I have seen in my golf travels (I belong... More

I'll start with the positive...The layout is great. Unfortunately, the course condition is one of the worst I have played in the past two years. My local muni course is in better shape than this layout. A "heads up" on the condition of the course would have been nice when we made our tee times to alert us of the... More

Overall: Sand Barrens is one of the best public courses in New Jersey. Course has taken a proverbial beating from the hot summer and several holes were definitely showing some damage. Positives: Course has a great layout with 27 holes; pro shop and starter were friendly and helpful. Starter warned us that the course had taken a beating because of... More

They should be embarassed to charge $110 to play this course!! This course should be closed for a year at least and a new superintendent should be brought in to fix this course. Absolutley one of the biggest rip-offs I have ever experienced. I play 75 rounds of golf per year at 25 different golf courses up and down the... More

Yes Sand Barrens has lots of sand. If you are not hitting them straight and the correct distance you can be in the sand on every hole. This course has 27 holes available and they are well maintained and very scenic. My only complaint was there was quite a bit of rocks in most of the sand traps so they... More

erratic service and food quality. Can't bring friends here because you never know what you may get. Will probably give it another try sometime.

The course is usually well-maintained and gives variety in mixing up three nines. The club house has beautiful views of the course with dining and bar.

Over the last year or so, this course has had some problems, mainly with conditions. late last year they hired a new superintendent and the turn-around has been nothing short of incredible. While it is not quite back to the conditions that made it one of the region's top courses in the past, it's getting there fast. I can't wait... More

Nice track, finely maintained & professional staff. We were playing in severe weather & my buddy hit an approach wedge that went backwards. Found the course challenging and the amenities top.
