About
This property is temporarily closed. The Princeton University Art Museum is one of the nation's finest art museums, housing collections of over 72 ,000 works of art spanning 5,000 years of world history and all the world's major cultures. The Museum also presents special exhibitions and educational programs throughout the year. Admission is free. The main Museum building is closed for construction of our new Museum, designed by architect Sir David Adjaye and anticipated to open in late 2024. While we build a new Art Museum for Princeton, visit us downtown–in two galleries that feature changing exhibitions and in our retail store, which offers handcrafted, artisanal works and much more.

Too stuffy for my tastes. Beautiful paintings and art pieces. Security presence was overbearing. I was called out for leaning to far over a free standing sculpture ( no rope or sinage to warn you). Gift shop selling handmade wallets for $350.

One of the great treasures of Princeton's elegant campus is the University Art Museum. Sophisticated without being pretentious, balanced collections of excellent quality, just the right size as to not be overwhelming or repetitive. An uplifting and soothing experience. Free admission, also...

Very good permanent and visiting collections. But it is rather small if you're used to the Met etc. Friendly staff in the middle of the campus.

Excellent collection of paintings of Bhagvat Geeta and Ramayana. Well preserved and presented. Most of the paintings done in Mughal dynasty shows the emperors will to respect and merge the culture.

Too bad it is far divided now.

The Princeton University Art Museum is a great way to spend an afternoon. The building is located on campus so parking may be a problem. Parking in Princeton is always a challenge since the city sees meters and parking tickets as revenue raisers.

Nonetheless visiting the museum is worth the effort and the aggravation of the parking. It's a wonderful collection of paintings and sculpture tastefully arrayed on 3 large floors all organized in themed rooms. There's plenty of American artwork on display along with world class pieces befitting wealthy benefactors of a prestigious ivy league university.

Admission is free but call ahead to confirm that the museum is actually open. The endless construction projects to expand the campus can cause disruptions to the best laid plans.

This is not a huge museum with mega exhibits but nor is it a very small one. A decently sized museum with lot of artefacts and exhibits will take you a couple of hrs to go through minutely. What I also like about them is that they keep changing their exhibits. The campus around it, the awesome Princeton University adds to the glamour of visiting this museum.

We visited for the first time and were very impressed with the museum, it is small but worth visiting. The staff especially the guard in the Egyptian section made it truly wonderful, he was from Egypt and took the time to explain to my son who loves Egyptian art. It was a great experience and we hope to go back soon.

This is the second best art museum in New Jersey (Only the Newark Museum tops it). Really worth a look at. The medieval collection is excellent. Check for special exhibits. Always pleasant to walk around town. Don't miss the Battle of Princeton Monument and the historic cemetary.
