Great Guides

There was not a tremendous amount of birds to see, but the guides made up for it by scooping up marine creatures and giving a hands on marine bio lesson right on board.

The guides on the skimmer were great. Very knowledgable about birds and salt marsh ecology. Lots of good photographic opportunities, saw a little blue heron and got a great picture of it catching a fish. The tried hard to find a seaside sparrow but the birds did not cooperate. The surprise was when they pulled out a cooler and showed... More

We were able to get a last minute seat on the Skimmer, which picked us up at the Wetlands' Institute in Stone Harbor. The captain and accompanying guide were very knowledgeable about the environment, the sea birds, and the small organisms that we saw. They scooped out some shrimp and small fish to show us. Definitely worth a visit.

Although we've been going out on the Skimmer for the last 12 summers, we always learn something new. This year the new naturalist Margo was a fount of knowledge and enthusiasm. We could have listened all day.

I highly recommend the Salt Marsh Safari on the Skimmer. We enjoyed a two hour tour of the back bay which I never realized was so big. They did not fill the boat to capacity so it was roomy and easy to move around, take pictures and see all the views. Very relaxing. The boat is covered so the sun... More

I can't recommend the Salt Marsh Safari on the Skimmer enough. The trip was relaxing, informative and fun. The back bays are beautiful and the crew helped us to learn in an enjoyable way. I especially appreciate the care with which they helped my almost-88-year-old mom on and off the boat and the way they included the one young girl... More

My mom and I enjoyed the two-hour cruise of the salt marshes with Captain Bill and Glenn. The crew was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all sorts of questions from adults and kids. Even though I've been on many similar tours, I learned lots of new things and had fun on this relaxing ride through the marshes. The boat... More

We loved this tour! I learned so much about the salt marsh environment. We saw many birds, including Osprey on or near their nests. The Skimmer is a flat-bottomed boat that allows it to go into and close to the marshes. The captain kept a look-out for birds while a naturalist onboard explained the ecosystem, or told us about the... More
