One of several worthwhile lighthouses in NJ. It is 9 miles from the bridge to LBI, but you will not regret the effort. In summer it is a great place to watch the acitivities in Barnegat Inlet or on the jetty. In winter it is pretty deserted, but a great place for artic birds that winter there. If you have... More

This spot holds a ton of memories for me and I adore it in every sense of the word as it provides a ton of fun for families and kids alike...wade pools during low tide, a great walking path and Andy's has great soup.

The lighthouse rewards its visitors with an astonishing view of the water once you reach the top. That being said; its 217 steps to the top. The stairs are very steep and narrow. There are some landings on the way up and down where you could rest on the side to catch your breath. You go up and down on... More

We got to climb Old Barney, all 217 spiral steps up.....Which gave an amazing view of the waters and jetty...and passing by boats (which there were lots)...in Nov, the climb is free, but only available on weekends. The Interpretive center is closed, but thank goodness they do still have nice open bathroom facilities..After the climb you can enjoy a nice... More

217 steps to the top. Great view. Sways a little in the wind. Keep in mind, this is a lighthouse and not a museum. They do sell T Shirts at the visitors center

I used to think New Jersey was rather like Essex somewhere you went on business or better still drove through to get somewhere else. Well that changed with a week's holiday in Barnegat Light, on Long Island Beech, on the southern tip of New Jersey. My kids rented a house ( 9 West 22d St.) to celebrate our Ruby Wedding... More

This is a beautifully restored lighthouse. 217 steps to the top and worth it with wonderful views. It was free and I would have gladly paid to go in. The park is great too looking out at the Atlantic to the north of LBI. Take a walk on the jetty and you will not be disappointed. Great opportunity to enjoy... More

I grew up in PA and vacationed in West Creek,NJ since I was a child. Every summer we made many trips to the lighthouse - best memories of my childhood!! Now I have kids, live in MA but every summer go "home" to NJ! We always visit "Old Barney" and walk the jetty....it is a tradition that my family loves... More

If you like sunsets, you will love Barnegat Lighthouse State Park. It is so beautiful here. Take the 217 steps to the top of the lighthouse and enjoy an amazing panorama of the real Jersey Shore. Watch the fishing fleet head out to the ocean, get an ice cream cone at Kelley's or picnic at the park. This picturesque setting... More

This is a very nice park. The view from the lighthouse is excellent and well worth climbing a few stairs. After going up the lighthouse, we also walked out on the pier and then the rocks to look at the water and surrounding areas. It is a very nice and pleasant way to spend a couple hours. Certainly not a... More
