Viking village has 2 things: Fishing boats loading and unloading. A few cute small shops located in a single row of wooden shacks. Short stop on your way to or from Barnegat lighthouse but if you don't come for the lighthouse or the beaches at the northern end of LBI, do not make the detour.

Quaint little shops. They sell anything from antiques to candy. If you are looking for something to do, wander around Viking Village. You can take a tour of the village if you like.

Stop by How Ya Brewin for a fantastic cup of coffee and maybe even some sweet treats. Parking can be a little tight, but tool around till you find a good spot.

Working boats and crews coming and going constantly, but plenty of space for tourists to walk around and see how the fisherman's life really works. The kids and adults will learn about "draggers", fish boats and long lines. Bringing fish ashore and quickly trucking it out is a science to behold. Nearby Viking Village makes this a well rounded excursion.... More

You can watch them load up the fishing boats here, which my kids loved. Several of the fisherman stopped to talk to them about how long they'd be gone and what they were hoping to catch. Definitely fun if you're looking for a break from the beach. There are a few shops and a place to get ice cream here... More

We stopped by Viking Village as we were passing by on a bike ride. There were a couple of shops but it seemed like most of the stores were closed.

With several unique shops in an historic and scenic setting, Viking Village is a great place to visit. The Spotted Whale is a unique gift & home decor shop. Many other stores also make this worth the drive. Wander through the shops, view the boats, get some fresh, local fish, and you'll learn about the real Jersey shore.

Most of the shops are only open during the summer season. Bring your plastic, because none of them are cheap, but the selection is high quality and very diverse. Parking might be an issue, but you can always park in the marina lot and walk to the shops. Check the local papers for the weekends they have special events and... More
