On our recent visit to Portsmouth, we stopped into the “Discover Portsmouth Center” just because we were walking by. What we found inside was wonderful. There was a large exhibit hall that had an art show underway from so local artists. We do enjoy looking at different types and mediums for art, and we found this to be very refreshing.... More

Portsmouth is a beautiful place to visit. We visited in November, it was a little past peak time for the turning of the leaves but it was still colorful. We drove along the water and got some nice pictures. The town has many restaurants and little gift shops. I like to go to Stonewell kitchen to pick up jams and... More

This was a great first stop for us to plan several days in Portsmouth. Lots of maps and brochures and a very helpful staff to let us know what to see first and how to use our time.

Discover Portsmouth is an ideal place to get acquainted with the coastal city. It's well worth a traveler's time to spend a half hour or more here. There's an excellent, brief film on Portsmouth's history, changing art exhibits and a lovely gift shop. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Truly an impressive facility.

Portsmouth has really found its place in history and has maintained the Colonial feeling of early New England mixed with hip new stores, pubs and culture. Try one of the book bars where you read and drink. Loved them! Walking the streets and visiting the stores can send you back in time and you expect to bump into our founding... More

Good place to walk around and shop, plenty of restaurants with good seafood and historic places to visit. The waterfront however, was disappointing, can really enjoy it unless you're in a waterfront restaurant or bar.

We parked in the Hanover Street Parking Garage and headed to the Discover Portsmouth Center which was about a 3 block walk. We were provided with a map of Portsmouth and given recommendations on places to visit and eat based on our preferences. The employee was friendly and answered all our questions. The map is a great reference while walking... More

Most visitors know that the Discover Portsmouth Galleries provide historical overviews of this port city with art exhibitions, lectures, a book and gift shop and special exhibits about local, contemporary artists. What many do not know is that there is a fabulous gallery devoted to the Black Americans of Portsmouth and the USA in a back room. The African American... More

It was my second time visiting this city, acctually I like it very much. Its nice and calm place. People are polite and helpfull. Definately it deserves to spent one or two days there. they have amazing park and Gunwarf (place with a tower that looks like Burj Al Arab in Dubai)
