We will live in Connecticut and we actually plan our frequent trips to Portsmouth around this theater's schedule. I explained this to a staff member who thought I was joking. This is one of our nation's oldest theater with pillars, scrollwork, and murals. Downstairs there's a high tech neon bar that clashes with the old decor upstairs so be prepared... More

The residents of Portsmouth are so very lucky to have this gem. Whether for movies or even more special, live performances, this is a perfect venue. It's big enough to attract quality acts and yet small enough that every seat is a good seat. It rivals many of the Broadway theaters in NY in terms of quality of viewing. The... More

The theatre is small enough to feel intimate even when you are sitting in the rear of the balcony. Outstanding sound on this particular night (again, even from our less-then-ideal seats) and just a great vibe overall. The lobby bar, the costumed greeters and especially the bathrooms just add to the experience. I'd rather see a show here than in... More

We saw The Buddy Holly Story. The theatre was so impressive. It was a theatre much like some of the theatres in NYC. Very comfortable...Sound quality was great. As you enter the lobby, there were many places to sit and enjoy a drink before you went upstairs to see the show.

I would go here again and again. Great venue. Small and brimming with excitement. Check out what is going on and take a risk to go. Walkable area right downtown. You can bring your drinks right into the theatre. And you get to sit right "with" the performers, the stage is that close. We saw the Grammy winning Santa Cecelia... More

The Music Hall is a great venue to see live music or a movie. It's an old school building that has been redone; the restrooms are a little out there, but fun. The Music Hall has a great website which showcases the upcoming events....all types of music and all kinds of movies. If you're in the area and looking for... More

A hidden theatre jewel, professional productions n within my personal budget. I can't ask for more. I go a couple times each year and never disappointed. Parking is tricky but, PPortsmouth is a walking city.

This is an old theater, and they do have some great events. It is really worth attending a performance here as it's a beautifully restored theater. That being said, we waited too long to get our tickets (our fault), and the seats we ended up getting were not great as there are posts in the theater that can inhibit the... More
