Mount Pemigewasset is one of the largely overlooked peaks of the Franconia Notch region as it sits quite humbly in stature when compared to its neighbors. This peaks summit's views have nothing second rate about them though. From the top, granite slabs and ledges drop away nearly 1,500 feet into the floor of Franconia Notch. This is quite a reward... On route 3 across from Indian Head Resort. You can see the head of an Indian in the rock formation. Easier to see on a sunny or at least partly sunny day,

Though it's not the Old Man of the Mountain himself, Indian Head is definitely a natural wonder of the region! Viewable from the road, but even better so from the observation tower across the street, which offers a panoramic view of Franconia Notch. You can also climb up to Indian Head (a.k.a. Mt. Pemigewasset) it you feel like a hike!... More

Great atmosphere, Cody our waiter was unbelievably awesome he earned his tip for sure. Didn't stay just figured we would try the food. Walked around the grounds of Indian Head very nice, cute gift shop, will think of staying in Aug. History plaque of Betty and Barney Hill in front.

It's a rock formation looking like an Indian head with a headdress of pine trees. It's worth a little drive out of your way if you need to!

not sure if it is still there, may have disappeared in a rock fall. It was amazing to see this giant Indian head carved out on the top of a mountain, it was discovered about a hundred years ago after a forest fire burned all the vegetation on the mountain

Nice place to stay, very close to hobo rail (polar express event) and loon mountain (skiing) , views from the rooms are either overlooking the shadow lake where you can engage in boating or they are overlooking the notch (ie the Indian head mountain view) ... Friendly staff and nice facilities.

Summit is about a mile and a half from the parking are. Trail meanders and switches uphill. Did it in the snow with a crunch cover, path slightly trodden and slick but very maneuverable. Nice variety of altitude change and forest and stream.
