I've been wanting to do this for years ever since I was a kid and I'm now 36. My wife booked this trip for our family with the steam engine (The only one I wanted to ride in.) It's kind of pricey but worth it.You have to remember that it's a cog railway trail ride not a ride in a... More

We took the Cog during October 2015. I recommend booking ahead of time. We were lucky that the weather was picture perfect that day. Lots of people at the base, and at the top.

Expensive. Do not be fooled by the photos in the pamphlet. There are no views. You cannot see anything! It is a dirty fuel burning engine. I mean black soot and hot ash so the windows must be closed. You sit at a harsh angle on filthy seats on a barren hill to the top. At the top there is... More

We did this on July 4 weekend, when the entire mountain range was covered in fog. The visibility was less than 100ft. After we hiked to the summit from the lodge, we took the cog railway to get back to base. The ride gives fabulous views if weather permits, and it is once in a lifetime experience that has to... I live in New England and I have driven, hiked and taken the cog railway up the Mountain. Riding the railway is a must do at least once in your lifetime, its a very unique experience and they make it fun the entire time. It's about an hr ride up to the summit, you stay on the summit for about... More

The ride up is very exciting and provides a completely difference perspective of Mount Washington as the Cog actually takes you up the outside of the mountain. There was plenty of snow making it challenging to walk around once we stopped but was definitely worth the trip.

I was hesitant a few days before going here because we went in Nov and after I bought the non refundable tickets I noticed that they do no go to the top of the mountain in Oct and Nov. We live in Maine so it's not really far,but far enough that I would have waited until a different time of... More

My wife is uneasy about driving up Mt. Washington...so we rode the cog railway! Wonderful scenery! Very safe! And the best part...the really nice staff that enjoy talking to you. Tell them where you are from! The engineer was happy to share detailed technical information about their custom-built locomotives that are built in their own yard. The conductor is full... More

Was promised bad weather an we got it. Low cloud and horizontal rain and wind gusting to over 60 mph and that was a calm day so the guide said
