The waterfall was very low this time of year, barely a stream. But that didn't stop us from enjoying the hike and the spectacular views of Cascade Lake. This is not a gentle hike. There are a lot of ups and downs and very rocky-- so wear closed toed shoes! I wish we had brought a picnic. We would have... More

Moderate trails with beautiful views of Emerald Bay The two trails cascade falls and desolation wilderness were my wife's first hiking experience. A bit tough for a newbie but with a few rest stops we reached our goals. The views of the lake, specially Emerald bay are worth the effort. Don't forget to rest once you get to the lake... More

The hike is only about 1.2 miles round trip. We like to leave early in the morning becuase it gets crowded later. We pack a lunch and hike up to the falls, walk among the rocks and creek for an hour or so, then eat. The best time to go is late June through July, so the water is running.

This was our second time on this trail...a fairly easy hike...minimal rock scrambling. :-) The views are to die for. You arrive at the top of the falls, so get your photos from the trail as you approach. We are early 70s and saw others our age and older on the trail. Would not recommend if you have balance or... The hike was not hard to traverse. There are areas of rocky steps that make the hike a little more exciting than a flat path. Just watch out for the little chipmunks that like to join you for a snack. The view of the lakes was worth the hike. When you reach the falls, if you're too hot, just put... More

Sure, there were dogs, young children, adults and native Lake Tahoeians that can do this course. But not me! I was tired, thirsty and hingry after our 2 mile hike. The incline wears you out and the rocks dont stick to my shoes easily ( didnt have hiking shoes ). But the views and the exercise was wonderful. Well worth... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our hike but beware this is not an easy hike and the trail is a bit confusing. Even though the falls did not have much runoff, it was still work the climb!

I used the reviews below to find the place and was very happy with the hike. The views were absolutely incredible and worth every minute of the hike. The "falls" were not really falls due to the drought, so that was a bit underwhelming, but overall a great hike. As far as difficulty, I had no problem and I don't... More

We live at 3800 ft. in the Blue Ridge mountains and hike multiple days every week. Several sources (some outside of Trip Advisor) classify this as an easy hike. It is not! It is a moderate+ hike and the trailheads are not well marked on either end. NyonyaLady gave the best instructions on the trailhead location. It is best to... More
