We need snow for this activity to work, but when we get some it's so fun to ski around spooner lake. The park is beautiful and you can hike through beautiful forests.

I was sad to see that the concession for cross country skiing has closed. I hope a new one opens for next season. In the meantime, it a beautiful place to snowshoe. A silver lining to the closing is that the scene is even quieter and more private. I encountered a total of 5 other hikers during a 4 hour... More

Max (owner) has closed the cross country ski area! Spooner Lake will no longer be groomed. You can still go out on the trails yourself as there are no trail fees anymore. I guess Max is still keeping the bike thing open in the summer, but this as a ski area is closed. If you purchased one of the 10... More

The short 2 mile hike around the lake is beautiful. Down by the lake is rocks that the Indians actually had used to make things, you can see where they did the grinding. Very interesting. You could actually picture them living there. So so beatiful.

This is a hike on a good trail around the circumference of Spooner Lake near the intersection of US 50 and St Rt 28. The 80 acre lake is surrounded by pines and groves of aspen trees. There are informative plaques spaced around the lake describing the location, ecology and history (dating back to late 1800s). Wintertime it provides a... More

This is much quieter and less packed than most other cross country ski resorts around. Good variety of beginning to difficult trails. I usually prefer backcountry skiing, but when I want to bring a beginner with me to go on groomed trails, or I want to do some skate skiing, I go here. They also have snowshoe trails.

Try cross country skiing out here. My 5 and 7 year olds did well. The staff at Spooner Lake was extremely friendly and helpful. Also, compared to the holiday price gouging at the downhill ski resorts, this is very affordable for the whole family. The Spooner Lake area is beautiful.

A friend and I rented bikes here to ride the Flume Trail around Lake Tahoe and had a blast. The bikes were excellent quality, well-maintained and very reasonable. The shuttle service is a bargain ($5) with bike rental. The people were helpful, friendly and well-organized. Sometimes tourist-centered places can be less than welcoming, but I can't say enough good things... More
